Fraternities always get a bad rep when in reality, a lot of them aren’t like this. I was in one and I think it was one of the best decisions I ever made(Yes we got hazed but we all agreed to it and nothing was ever taken to this extreme). Now many of my closest friends are the brothers I met and couldn’t imagine not having them in my life.

@@powerle3380 I was in a fraternity too and it honestly wasn’t worth it to me. I’m not friends with anyone from it, nor did I really enjoy the experience. I joined because I was 19 and thought I’d make friends, until I realized I made more friends just being myself rather than joining a club. To each their own though. Glad to hear you had a good experience.

This isn't the first time this has happened. At least one incident a year that makes the news and a lot more that don't. I am sure lots of parents don't want their child looked down upon by everyone who watches or reads the news. I remember being in school and one of the tricks was the frat took one of those do not steal tags out of a library book and stuck it somewhere on the kid so he kept going through the metal detector and it kept going off. The campus police watched as this kid was sent through over two dozen times. Hazing in frats are what happens on college campuses. Parents need to sit down and warn sons and daughters about this. Many rapes happen on and off campus due to drinking in excess.

coming from someone who experienced hazing in a fraternity hazing incidents like this piss me off. i was very lucky i was in a fraternity who was very strict about what is and isnt allowed in terms of hazing. i was the pledge master which means i was in charge of the pledges that came through the fraternity. we had very strict policies there was to be no forcing of drinking excessive amounts and nothing that would intentional injure someone. when the year started the board had a meeting with all members and it was clearly stated and forced consumption of alcohol or dangerous activities would lead to an immediate and automatic suspension from the fraternity and you would be turned over to the university greek affairs office where they would punish and deal with the situation accordingly. all the pledges were told if they were being put in a spot they were not feeling safe they were instructed to leave and immediately text or call me and it would be dealt with the next day. if pledges went to someone house or rooms i had to be notified who and where as well. also my room as well as all board members rooms were safe zones for all the new guys. now did we haze, yes absolutely but our hazing was. making them clean our places, designated driver duty, run errands for us (always were compensated if money was spent) and stupid stuff like battleship where we would have them lay down in the yard and the frat next door would play battle ship throwing water balalons over the fence ect but nothing that would lead to injuries on purpose. also our university had a great policy with the student medical center. it was a no questions asked policy. if you came intoxicated the staff didnt care how or where it happened you were treated and released with no consequences. every university should have that policy in place. it amazes me seeing what some of the other fraternities did in a bad way. there are good frats out there like mine who truly cared about safety unfortunately there are more where members want to feel like their badasses.

Alcohol poisoning. The other possibility is moonshine or methanol a common component of moonshine, but one potential cure for methanol is real alcohol, also called ethanol, as an enzyme prefers real alcohol and breaks it down and the methanol leaves the body without breaking down. It's the break down of methanol can cause acute blindness and organs to shut down. But it definitely depends on the levels of methanol and ethanol in liquor and timing. Hospitals have better methods now to help stop the horrific damage. Does anyone know what toxicology test state and *IF methanol played any role. Typically the blood brain barrier kicks in and people throw up. That helps save lives too.

Because US culture celebrates drinking, while being paternalistic with other substances used for fun, despite some rarely leading to deaths. They went on and on about the "opiate epidemic" (which was easy to fix in a small time frame with computer tracking, doctors monitoring patients better, etc), all while alcohol has killed the most people over and over. I'm not saying adults shouldn't drink either. I think adults should make their own choices. However, it's bizarre how drinking for fun is all over the media, plays a role in most entertainment, and extremely difficult to avoid, when it's the number 1 killer. People complain about medicine being in commercials but alcohol is pushed as a recreational sport everywhere, with 0 medical benefits. We need to change attitudes towards drinking, educate young people more, and stop treating alcohol as something different than any other recreational drug.

They can't sue the school/college because while this happened on their grounds, the fraternity members and victim are all adults that should have known better. The parents could and should sue the fraternity. Although from he video shown, he wasn't forced or blindfolded(he pretty much consented), so they might loose the case on this one. First and last frat party even though I was friends with a couple people there & took a good number of girlfriends with me. Turns out the majority of their “brothers” were creeps (predators?) and frat parties are just them trying to hook up with girls regardless of if the girl wants to or not. I later found out that this particular frat was known for raping people so that’s fun. How an organization with a reputation of raping women is still allowed to continue is beyond me. 🙃 And this was at a major university (UCLA)

This is absolutely disgusting. I feel like we see too many horrific events happen in comparison to this. Universities and colleges should completely get rid of fraternities for good! Horrible and outrageously disgusting. These so called "brothers" should be ashamed of themselves. This is also not an example of pledging as I once went through it as a fraternity brother. This is HAZING

The fraternity members should definitely be charged but I also believe his parents did a poor job educating him before college. There needed to be a conversation about alcohol, sex, etc before dropping your kid off at college. There would have been a chance their son didnt allow himself to be hazed like that if they just openly talked to him about what college experience is about.

I feel like parents can talk to and educate their kid until they're blue in the face, but once they get to college, especially once they start being influenced by the sorority/fraternity they want to pledge to that will all go out the window and they'll do whatever it takes. These colleges need to strictly enforce a zero hazing policy and if it's not followed then the fraternity gets shut down. It's disgusting that it even still happens. It's not worth it to be a part of such a stupid group.

.468 is absolutely insane. To put this into perspective, a 220 pound male if they drink a 12 pack of light beer (4-4.2%) within 3 hours not only do they have the strong urge to blackout but you lose almost complete bladder control at that level, with their BAC being more than twice the legal limit at .17. the fact they willingly let this man consume that much alcohol in such a little amount of time is beyond me. How can someone physically drink that much alcohol that fast and not get sick immediately?? So tragic.

To be honestly fair, as a college student I think this isn't all to blame on others. He made the decision to be there and the decision to drink. I have never ever put myself in any situation like this because I know that there are consequences. I don't think blaming others is the correct way of handling Danny's bad decision making. We should not blame others for our consequences on bad behavior. We should take this story and then question our own decision because now we see what can occur. This is still very saddening for the family I can't imagine what they are feeling.
@hollys6299

Im 32 and have never been to a high school or college party and just bc i never put myself in this situation doesnt mean that i cant understand what led Danny to do what he did and i hold absolutely no judgement toward him. Hazing is emotional manipulation and bullying. Why is that something to accept as the norm? Why blame the victims? Theres an entire wikipedia page devoted to hazing in the US bc deaths and injuries that occur from it are so prevelant. I dont get frats but more importantly i dont know why we let them operate and prey on those that are just looking to fit in and find some semblance of chosen family. No one that cares about other human beings would make them feel obligated to drink and entire bottle of vodka. That is fucked up. Maybe Danny should have known the consequences but shouldn't the people who directed him to do it in the first place also know the consequences? Why give them a free pass when it was their idea in the first place? There wouldnt be Danny drinking a bottle of vodka if there wasnt the people that told him to drink it, right? And i also wonder--if the police were called when they found him on the couch and he got medical attention then, would things be better and different for Danny today? Instead of doing the right and responsible thing, they picked him up and....dropped him?? Could that have made it worse? From stories ive heard and things ive seen, when someone is clearly in need of medical attention and 911 is not called, its bc someone is more worried abt covering their own ass than another humans health/safety.
