Sooner or later every comic has to deal with some opinionated audience member. Generally these hecklers are awful because they mess up timing and pacing for the comic, and tend to throw the entire show off balance, therefore ruining the show for all other paying customers.
SOMETIMES though, hecklers add a great new element to live comedy. Given that the person they're ripping on makes fun of shit for a living, there's always a good chance that heckler will get thoroughly owned.
With that, here are great instances in which hecklers were properly put in their place.
====================
FEATURED COMEDIANS:
====================
Rodney Dangerfield
At the age of 62, Rodney Dangerfield became the first white rapper to go mainstream when the single, Rappin' Rodney, crossed over into the pop charts making him the first white rapper to enter Billboard’s Hot 100.
Bill Hader
Master impressionist Bill Hader was bringing the audience at the Garage Comedy Show to its knees impersonating everyone from Al Pacino to James Mason at a donut store, when he served a pesky heckler his due justice for interrupting him.
Andrew Dice Clay
Andrew Dice Clay rose to iconic status in the 1980s, selling out hundreds of large arenas with his brash, macho and offensive persona. During his No Apologies comedy special, he proved that he can take it as well as he dishes it, with a hilarious response to a woman who interrupted his routine just to flash him.
Corey Holcomb
Often billing himself as the "ghetto Dr. Phil", most of Corey Holcomb's standup material revolves around relationships, particularly relationships gone wrong.
Kenny Moore
In one of the most legendary heckler putdowns ever, Kenny Moore was performing his routine, when a heckling couple near the stage got the better of him. The clip went viral before the Internet even existed, as dubbed copies of the VHS tape circulated widely. Moore was arrested and spent the weekend in jail.
Doug Stanhope
Growing up, Doug Stanhope bonded with his mother over their shared sense of humor. In his early days as a comic, she'd mockingly mail him parcels containing obesity porn, casette recordings of her own farts, and the obnoxious suits that have now become his trade-mark.
Hugh Laurie
Although he is best known for the FOX series, House, Hugh Laurie has had an exceptional career in character, sketch and slapstick comedy. Nowadays he regularly tours with his band performing material ranging from standup comedy to jazz.
Barry Rothbart
Barry Rothbart has spoken out about his father’s long history in organized crime and ties to the Mafia. At one time he was even a bookie for the Gambino Crime Family.

Rodney Dangerfield was the ultimate comedian! When he was surrounded by other comedians, they just sat back and laughed hysterically as he told joke after joke. The man spent several decades writing jokes, and was always prepared for hecklers! Heckling Rodney would be like an amateur challenging an mma champion...someone is getting humiliated and it's going to be fun to watch!

Dangerfield was crass and simplistic. He had all the subtley & intelligence of a brick to the back of the head. That's why he never made it outside of the US. He only made it *inside* the US because he was willing to be crass on stage at a time when most comedians weren't.
@buckbuchanan4902

@@iatsd He was "simplistic" and had no intelligence? Do you not realize that comedy is one of the most difficult fields to excel in, and people have to be quite clever to do it? There have been comedians who have been crass since long before Rodney was even born!
@iatsd
@iatsd Жыл бұрын
@@buckbuchanan4902 I generally agree. Comedy IS difficult. That's why so few American comedians succeed outside the US: they are usually dumber and less capable than non-American comedians. Look at Jerry Sienfeld. Americans love him. But he's just not funny. Americans have a childish and puritanical sense of humour. Most people outgrow that level by the age of ~5. Dangerfield is better than many, but he's still crap.

@@iatsd So you've gone from degrading one of the greatest comedians in history, to degrading every single comedian from an entire nation? @@buckbuchanan4902 I am not degrading them. I'm simply commenting and pointing out that they're objectively not very good, on average, and that very few of them have global following. I'm sorry that facts upset you. Maybe you should broaden your horizons a little - after all, a list isn't proof of anything, is it now? The fact you leave out a lot of successful American comedians that have/are globally successful is kinda telling about your standards and knowledge.

And then these brain dead idiots who cheer for the whole thing to go down, act like the guys in the wrong for defending himself? What kinda backwater comedy club was that?
