William Raymond Stacy Burr (May 21, 1917 - September 12, 1993) was a Canadian-American actor known for his lengthy Hollywood film career and his title roles in the television dramas Perry Mason and Ironside.
Burr's early acting career included roles on Broadway, radio, television, and film, usually as the villain. His portrayal of the suspected murderer in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Rear Window (1954) is his best-known film role, although he is also remembered for his role in the 1956 film Godzilla, King of the Monsters!, which he reprised in the 1985 film Godzilla 1985. He won Emmy Awards for acting in 1959 and 1961 for the role of Perry Mason, which he played for nine seasons (1957-1966) and reprised in a series of 26 Perry Mason TV movies (1985-1993). His second TV series Ironside earned him six Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations.
Burr died of cancer in 1993, and his personal life came into question, as many details of his biography appeared to be unverifiable. He was ranked number 44 of the 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time by TV Guide magazine in 1996.
During the filming of his last Perry Mason movie in the spring of 1993, Burr fell ill. A Viacom spokesperson told the media that the illness might be related to the renal cell carcinoma (malignant kidney tumor) that had been removed from Burr that February. It was determined that the cancer had spread to his liver and was at that point inoperable. Burr threw several "goodbye parties" before his death on September 12, 1993, at his Sonoma County ranch near Healdsburg. He was 76 years old.
The day after Burr's death, American Bar Association president R. William Ide III released a statement: "Raymond Burr's portrayals of Perry Mason represented lawyers in a professional and dignified manner. ... Mr. Burr strove for such authenticity in his courtroom characterizations that we regard his passing as though we lost one of our own." The New York Times reported that Perry Mason had been named second-after F. Lee Bailey, and before Abraham Lincoln, Thurgood Marshall, Janet Reno, Ben Matlock and Hillary Clinton-in a recent National Law Journal poll that asked Americans to name the attorney, fictional or not, they most admired.
Burr was interred with his parents at Fraser Cemetery, New Westminster, British Columbia. On October 1, 1993, about 600 family members and friends paid tribute to Burr at a private memorial service at the Pasadena Playhouse.

As usual great job Scott. I'm glad your father had the influence on you to teach you and show you about Raymond Burr. I know a lot of people are much younger and don't remember or care about who he was but that guy was phenomenal. I remember when I was younger and the older people would talk about these old actors and musicians and athletes and scientists... a bunch of people I never heard of but the bottom line is there have been great people throughout the past and by far Raymond Burr, as an actor, definitely was one of them. He set the ground work for people with disabilities, which was not accentuated again until a great TV show called The Facts of Life had a beautiful actor named Geraldine Jewell did this. I don't recall any show that has featured someone that has a physical disability. Raymond Burr did a great job and there are still millions of fans of his and I'm glad you put this video together. Way to go my Canadian brother! Keep them coming. Peace be with you and see you later!

Oh Scotty you brought back some beautiful memories of the days gone by in my life. I read every Perry Mason novel I could get my hands on. Erle Stanley Gardiner the Author. Perry Mason, Della Street and the cheeky Paul Drake. I read these books in India but the picture was complete when I watched Raymond Burr and company in the series Perry Mason when I came to Australia. It sort of put faces on the characters which were well suited. Like your Dad I loved Perry Mason and Raymond Burr and I am so happy I had something in common with him. He has such a wonderful son who is part of my family now. We will meet soon Scott. I am really happy you visited Raymond Burr’s grave and allowed me to pay my respects and tribute to him. I watched Ironside too which I thoroughly enjoyed. Raymond Burr was so handsome and talented. Criminal Investigation is my cup of tea😂. Thank you Scotty. Lots of love❤️🤗✌🏼💕

Burr played a character named Steve Martin (I believe) in the English dubbed and re-edited version of 'Godzilla.' The original Japanese version had no such character and was very different from the American version. It's significant because the English version became such an iconic classic.

Always loved Raymond Burr, if you get a chance watch him and Errol Flynn in Mara Maru (1952) Vancouver connection somewhat and Flynns Characters last name was Mason in that 😉 I am surprised that cemetery is so small for it's age (1869) pretty though

I had no idea Raymond Burr was Canadian. It must've been horrible having to hide his sexuality back in the days of old Hollywood to avoid being without work permanently
