Westerns Depicting the End of an Era

Almost a subgenre of westerns is the time period around the turn of the 19th to 20th century. The end of the traditional Frontier western, making way for the modern era.
Some filmmakers picked up on this and used it as a theme in their westerns. A melancholy for the past and uncertainty of the future.
Many in that time struggled with the changing times. New technology and greater changes in society. It was a new world.

The Wild Bunch is the best and most obvious on your list. Here are some of mine no particular order. 1: The Man Who Shot Liberty valance 2: Cimarron 3: Column South 4: 2 Flags West 5: White Feather 6: Only The Brave 7: The Son ( TV) 8: How The West Was Won. 9: Santa Fe 10: Two For Texas ( TV)

Pretty good list. I have seen almost all of them. I would add one more Bite the Bullet-1975. Just my 2 cents.

The Wrath of God (1972) Starring Robert Mitchum Good Old Boys (1995) The End of an Era and the Neo-Westerns are among my favorites. I really like "The Rounders (1965)"

There are a number of films depicting the End of an Era theme which could have made this a much bigger list such as Shane, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance or Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. However, for me all Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch has is two gorefests at the beginning and end with little of substance in between while his Ride the High Country is a much better film conveying this theme.
