What other filmmaker should we make a compilation Honest Trailer for? One: Speak up and join the conversation- we encourage respectful debate. Two: Respect your community- racism, misogyny, homophobia and hate speech aren’t tolerated. Three: “Be nice.” - Dalton from Roadhouse

guys stop being so afraid of criticizing popular stuff and stop apologizing for it. that's why we're here, not for unending praise we already get that from EVERYWHERE else. keep being honest and making fun of stuff, people need to stop taking everything so seriously

Ana-Maria C 100%, this honest trailer felt more like an actual trailer or advert in places. Surprised me because their actual honest trailers of Nolan's films were mostly pretty critical if I remember right (especially Interstellar and Inception)
@oldDNU
@oldDNU 6 жыл бұрын
They usually reserve the "we're making jokes, hold off on the nerd rage" comments for the commentaries, but yeah, they spent a lot of the trailer's time telling the Francises to lighten up.
@sanderflop
@sanderflop 6 жыл бұрын
The problem is that they're being comedic when they do HT but sincere for everything else, which is why people have a hard time distinguishing it and it always leads to vitriol in the comment section. I can understand why they want to avoid that

Laura P nono you got me wrong. i am neither criticizing them nor is this about Nolan. I do not give the slightest fuck about Nolan. the thing was that they keep apologizing so much for every joke they make and for every criticism they give regarding popular stuff (Nolan is included here but it's not about him)

Fun fact about "fridging": it came out of comic books. Specifically Green Lantern. During the Kyle Reiner green lantern comic his girlfriend was murdered and her broken body crammed into the fridge with the only story purpose being to motivate him for a fight. Obviously they weren't the first ones to kill off the girlfriend just to shake things up (Gwen Stacey cough cough), but that is where the specific term "fridging" or "she's the girl in the fridge trope" come from

14:19: Yeah, this has always been kind of apparent although ever since Inception, the focal point of a protagonist's motivation has begun to gravitate toward the character's child instead of their spouse. It might have something to do with the fact that Nolan's first kid was born (I believe) in 2003 or 2004.

Agreed. Also my pick for movie way better than the book. I have a different take than Joe on it. He seems to find The Prestige loses its rewatchability due to how much the film telegraphs the twist. @mickyjankis9542
@mickyjankis9542 6 жыл бұрын
Erik Dresner Yes, rightfully said, that's why I like that movie much more, haven't read the book, because everyone says movie is better, and it is easier to hide that kinda twist in a book, but in a movie it becomes near impossible, but they pulled it off
@oldDNU
@oldDNU 6 жыл бұрын
The book is also quite different. For starters, the twist is far more obvious. Angier's machine works slightly differently and with fewer stakes. There's a modern-day framing device that doesn't quite work. Otherwise, the first half of the book is Borden's journal and the second half is Angier's. I like Christopher Priest--Inverted World is on my top 5 list of favorite books--but compared to the movie, The Prestige novel is just OK.

The Deus ex machina ending killed the movie for me. A machine by Tesla? Really?

24:46 Hey Joe! FUnny you mentioned that.. before Batman Nolan was suppose to do a Howard Hughes movie starring Jim Carrey but when The Aviator came out he scrapped it (he has said that he may do it in the future).

I mean, sure, the BWAAA wasn't pronounced in the movie like it was in the trailer, but the slowed brass of the Edith Piaf song is basically the equivalent

Dan, just get an app for music making, where you can put your own samples in and trigger them in real time. Something like G-Stomper Rhythm.
