With the kiln opening video came a big surprise. My first time glazing spoons was a success and a big mess as well. Further more I testet 4 different green glazes for my SCM Mugs. Which one do you like the most? And then there was a plate which I glazed with 2 different greens. The Result is probably unexpected for you. At the end of the kiln unloading I found a mug I really like. It gives me hope after so many fails. The Mug says LIFE IS GOOD, and so it is. #mug #handmadepottery #pottery #clayart #cupoftheday #ceramicart #glaze #maycocolors #kilnopening #ceramic #amaco #spectrumglaze #kiln #kilnunloading #glazefiring #glazecombinations #mugs #handbuiltpottery #handbuilt #scm #scmagdeburg #homemade #homemademugs #homemadepottery #madewithlove #keramikkunst #brennofen #botz #glazing #lifeisgood #twosidesofthestory #potter

I knew that people who are interested in pottery are always kind and supportive but I didn't expect such an amazing feedback. Thank you so much and have a wonderful day. Suza

Greetings from Mississippi, USA! I just subscribed to your channel. I love your enthusiasm and love for pottery. I have only been doing pottery for about 2 years and I absolutely love it! I always use wax resist on the bottom of my mugs. It helps keep the glaze off the bottom. Thanks for sharing your lovely creations!😊

Hi Suza, I consider myself new at pottery too ( 3+ years now). I know how you feel when things come out of the kiln wrong. There is SO MUCH to learn. I have started to read the labels of the glazes to try and figure if they run or not. That help me a little... but now I and trying to write down what my experience have been with the different glazes. Even though I do not like an unglazed line on the bottom. I have been leaving (about half centimeter) clear at the bottom. Applying wax resist before ( on the area you want to keep clear) helps to keep it clear from glaze and helps keeping the glaze from running too. I love the work you are doing, you are very creative.

I think GLAZING is the most difficult part of the process ... and I've been making pottery for 30 years! This kiln opening reminds me so much of my early ceramic days. A couple of suggestions, even though you use cookies, you can still put kiln wash on the cookie. Also, while you're learning about glazes, you could leave the lower part of your vertical pieces (mugs) without glaze and do an oxide wash. Inscribe a pattern into the raw clay and put glaze only on the top 3/4 of the mug. Brush on an oxide wash on the lower part and gently wipe it off, leaving oxides in the inscribed area. Red iron oxide is easy to find. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED! This is all part of the process of learning! Best of luck!

Dear Barbara, I can’t be more grateful for your advices. Thank you so much. I’m happy to hear that you do it for such a long time. It doesn’t get boring. I think that’s why I love it so much ❤️ Can’t wait to load the next kiln with so much more new knowledge bombs. I appreciate that a lot.

If you can get Amaco glazes, maybe try Jade celadon. It’s a beautiful translucent green color that would show your texture and lettering. A lighter celadon color would work great over your sweet koala too. Hope that helps a little. 😊

I will definitely look for Amaco glazes. I also ordered Coyote glazes to my Hotel in the US, because in 2 weeks I'm on vacation in the midwest. Can't wait.

Use a dremel tool to get the drips off. Maybe you can save some. Also leave a rim on your mugs about 1/2 inch on the bottom.

I had to laugh as you tested how your spoons worked. Did it taste good? There are cookies people use that are a round disc and have like a tube attached in the center. So the piece is raised and glaze drips go on the flat part. The glazed piece is raised it doesn't stick. It's so sad when one has no control over cracks etc. But still, I can see how lovely they turned out ignoring the faults. As we say we learn by our mistakes. Happy potting

But good news. I could fix most of the mugs, which were connected with the cookie. My dad is a hero. Whenever I bring him those fails he finds a way to fix it. Wish you a great day and thank you for your support. Suza

I used MAYCO Copper wash with all the letters I stamped in. I think that some of the glazes changed their behavior because of that. They ran more than they normally do. One girl in the store said, that I better use something else as an underglaze.
