I was a machinist in the army, assigned to the 295th Heavylift Helicopter Company in Germany for four years. We had CH-54 Skycranes.

In 1984 I watched the real thing installing some very large components atop the General Motors plant in Doraville Georgia. I was amazed by the skill of the pilot. Those aircrafts are capable hovering rock steady and super accurate placement of the payload.

Really nice model and great video of it. With the length of those main blades and the horsepower it has to have, I would guess that it could be dangerous if not handled carefully.

Those sky Cranes are so cool, I know where the Northern California base is and occasionally drive past their facility. It's out in the farm country. Driving along you suddenly come upon these giant grasshopper insect looking helicopters. If you haven't seen one in person, they are huge. That's cool video.

We lost the plans for the center section; Make it anyway ! Love the 64's. Sweet model, very sweet. Wish physics would allow us to make micro turbine engines.

That's really cool but would love to see it lift something heavy. I built a modal of this helicopter when I was a kid. Didn't it have like a mobile hospital that fit between the two rear landing gear? It could drop it off and come back and get it later.
