Maybe the monsters where warriors meant to fight against said outer god. That since they get stronger with each sacrifice, upon the old god's return, mankind will sacrifice thousands of men to said monsters to empower them to right against the old gods.

There’s always something about practical effects or animatronics that always makes a movie feel more organic, hence even the best CGI probably won’t recreate the motion shown by many monsters in movies such as this one, I got another movie to add to my collection list. :)

It is a french movie because some times we see french text like at 3:45 it says "Comme une ombre il se cachait dans le noir ... il dort mais je l'entend toujours." in english it is " Like a shadow it's hide in the dark ... it sleep but i still hear it."

What I like about the concept of the movie was that they, as a collective group, saw the monster early on. The movie didn't use the fear that people might get when isolated in a cave while being hunted by an unknown being. There is no "something is hunting us" and "I don't believe you" bull crap. Also, they didn't survive in a situation that would get you k*lled in reality during the movie's era(?) of technology.

Good concept, not good execution. The monster costume is scary, but the goofy movements remove the creepyness of it. Looks like a real old style costume, that is nice, but the bad coordination hurts its image. The miners got hunted slowly because the alien was learning about them and understanding it needed help to get out. Being so strong the question comes up, how did the ancestors trap it, most likely they made it a new "bed" and it didn't realize it was a coffin with a mechanism strong enough to trap it, ancestors likely believed their job was done, threw the key on the ground after relaxing and destroyed the enetrance. The last 2 miners sacrifice was extra, they could have escorted the alien outside where modern weaponry would have killed it in seconds, the ancestors simpy didn't had the strenght to kil lit. It being hurt by a knife, likely killed by the explosion and hunting them slowly to avoid being ganged up make clear it wasn't invincible, even with the whole mechanic of getting stronger with every kill.

It’s a constant issue I have with movies like this. Why do you need to all die to contain it? It’s visible easy to injure, it clearly can be harmed, evacuate the mine or even let it go, we have weapons that could turn it to jam in seconds, even in the period of time this was set, it could easily have been killed

was it really trapped? he killed the miners after that old accident - he was most probably just chilling in his sarcophagus. But I agree: the dynamics that it needs some alive person to let out from the place is actually an interesting dynamics (it cannot just kill everyone, but have to slowly follow them or somehow trade with them)
