I always thought there was something strange about the Island and Mr. Roaurke anyway. It was that hard to re-imagine this as a horror.

Will say this...if you ever get a chance to watch the first original tv movie pilot with Ricardo Montalbaun , Mr. Rourke was kinda an evil person. When the series was picked up...they toned down his image to a more likeable character.

I mean, the plot twist of them finding out that they are not the guests but the "hosts" of someone else's fantasy is interesting and probably the smartest way possible to have a thriller come out of this scenario organically. But all out horror? I'm not sure it can work with Fantasy Island.

They did reboot it around 20 years ago with Malcolm McDowell as Mr. Rourke and it was a bit darker as well, implied that Hell was in charge of the island that time around. Didn't last more than 13 episodes

The book you mentioned was published in 2016, looks to be self-published, and has zero ratings on Amazon or Goodreads. I highly doubt this motion picture from a major house coming along on a string of popular mainstream horror films from their production company is based on a self-published book with no readership, no reviews, or anything. If they were going to adapt a novel, especially a self-pushed one, it would be a popular one. Sounds like this film and that book share a loose premise which is literally just "What if we took the very popular, common trope Be Careful What You Wish For....but put it on an island instead!" and are not connected in any way. Correct me if I'm wrong or tell me how you know this because I highly doubt Bloomhouse Fucking Productions is adapting an indie book with NO reviews on any platform. The fuck.
