I just made several Faraday bags. I used large size zip lock bags covered with over lapping copper foil tape. I then put them in a Faraday cage, except for one. That one holds 2 GMRS radios with extra batteries. At night I remove the battery from one radio and charge it while the radio is sealed in the Faraday bag.

What if you double bag the phone with a Faraday and EMP bag?
@andymat7359

Good stuff man, I wonder if either would help in case of a big solar flare, obviously laptops and cellphones wouldn't be much use, but walkie talkies, radios etc.
@TheSurvivalSummit
@TheSurvivalSummit 7 ай бұрын
Solar flares wouldn't affect small electronics unless they were plugged directly into the grid. A high altitude EMP could affect everything because it has all 3 pulses. There are too many variables to know exactly what would be affected, where it would be affected, what ground based stations are hardened, etc. etc., so it's 100% worth protecting your devices, even if you're just going to protect solar powered power banks, a tablet or cell phone with a USB adaptor to store 1000's of survival manuals, radios, flashlights, etc. Solar panels themselves would not be affected, but protecting wiring, power stations, and components would be necessary. Power stations, such as the ones from EcoFlow, can charge all small electronics. If it's worst-case scenario and the entire grid goes down, you have much bigger problems, but it's worth keeping everything protected because you never know what might come in handy.

@davidhuett3579 He did that for us, for you. Do you have anyone else who loves you enough to pay off all of your debts and then die a gruesome death for you? Would you mock anyone else who suffered a painful death? How can you hate and dispise someone who only ever shows love and care for people? What has happened to that little boy your mother loved - he is still inside. Find him and nurture him. Don't let the hard things make you hard.

How do you protect a solar plug and play generator ? Thank you for the information
@TannerSwizel
@TannerSwizel Ай бұрын
Solar panels alone don't have any sensitive electronics on them and are emp resistant, just make sure they aren't plugged into any electronics you want to protect. The generator/battery would survive an emp if tied off in a trash bag to electrically insulate it and then placed in an all metal trash can or other container that can fully surround the object in metal. Use foil tape to seal the lid

Question? Isn't the atmosphere within the radius of an EMP compromised for and electric/electronic operations unless it is Shielded, like military vehicles within that zone that can operate and communicate? Once you take anything out of shielding should not work .
@TheSurvivalSummit
@TheSurvivalSummit 6 ай бұрын
A high altitude EMP could cover most of the US if a large enough megaton weapon were used at the right height. The 2 pulses that would affect small electronics & vehicles are fast moving and don’t linger like the last pulse, but the last pulse really only affects long transmission lines. So anything connected to the grid. Once the faster pulses are gone there is no more damage taking place. EMP Doctor on KZfaq explains a lot more on his channel.

How strong of an EMP would fry smaller devices? What is the threshold? Do we have a measurement or scale to determine that?

Depends on the device. Tons of variables. Research EMP Doctor on KZfaq.

So in a faraday bag your phone will need to be turned off anyway correct? If not, your battery will go fast because it will be searching and searching for a signal.
@TheSurvivalSummit
@TheSurvivalSummit 10 ай бұрын
Easier to just put it in airplane mode. We've been in remote areas all day before and never had an issue with our battery dying faster. It doesn't seem to be trying to pick up signals the entire time if there are zero signals in range at all. There have been a few guys that have tested that on KZfaq I believe; I just don't remember who they were. Probably be easy to find.

Would you consider solar flare/coronal ejection an emp? And would a ferrday bag suffice?
@TheSurvivalSummit
@TheSurvivalSummit 6 ай бұрын
Similar, but a solar flare would only affect the grid and electronics plugged into the grid. It wouldn’t affect electronics not plugged in.

Would putting a Faraday bag inside an EMP bag be something you would recommend? How about the other way around? Looks like EMP is only a 5pc set on your site. Faraday's can be bought as 1pc.
@TheSurvivalSummit
@TheSurvivalSummit Жыл бұрын
If you’re using a Faraday bag, I don’t think you need an EMP bag since they both protect against EMPs, but the Faraday bag protects against all signaling. If you wanted to be extra sure, you could stack them in any order with each other. You could stack an EMP bag in another EMP bag for double the attenuation.

I have a non binding, question. In your opinion, if I put a standard 100 watt solar panel inside a couple of contractor bags and then wrapped that in heavy duty foil, would it offer any emp protection to the solar panel? Thanks for opinions.
@TheSurvivalSummit

Solar panels themselves do not need protection in most cases, only their connectors and wiring should need protection.

@TheSurvivalSummit

Not normal at all. If the cloth doesn’t have around 80db of attenuation, it won’t block all signals. If the co. doesn’t list the db’s, it’s a bad product.
