I was standing outside of the main gate at Silverstone after a F1 GP race had ended. I saw someone pointing inside a BMW car, stuck in the traffic, I walked over and saw it was Murray. I put me F1 guide into the sunroof, he pulled out a pen from his pocket and signed the first page. He asked me, if I had, a good time and said what a good race it had been. We chatted for about 5 mins, I thanked him and he drove off. A true gentleman, who had time for everyone.

I think the thing to take from that is that as a fan in a privileged position as he held, that he wanted us all to enjoy the racing as much as he did and I don't think I would 'endure' watching F1 as much now with many of the silly rules if it had not been for how much I enjoyed it as a kid and Murray was a huge part of that

@@lukemallory7832 Hi Luke, I would say it must have been, I think it was 1992 and a black BMW, the funny thing was, I tripped on the grass, has I walked up to the car, I climbed up the side of the BMW and just put the guide through the sunroof for Murray to sign. When I got back to my friends, they could not stop laughing, after about 5 min one of them said the chap in the car behind Murray saw me climbing up the side of the BMW , he then lent over and locked all his car doors ( due to some nutter trying to get in the sunroof of the car in front)? In the chat I had with Murray, I told he about a new pit board I had invented. He encourage me to take it further. I now supply and number of F1 ,BSB, Moto GP. .BTCC team,. and driver like Lewis, Sed, Mark Web, Jenson, have or are still using the boards today.

@@setokaiba2351 I’d say Martin Brundle is up there. I didn’t quite like Jonathan Legend for the BBC. Brundle is superb if not a wee bit biased these days now with LH and Mercedes dominating. Though when it comes to it I enjoy his commentary and in-depth knowledge about the sport. Knowing Martin, he is constantly learning more and more about the sport to break down barriers and pass on the knowledge conveyed in such a way for any layman to understand.

His Murrayisms made him seem so human. There is a knack to it. Other commentators in sport make silly errors often, but they irritate me more than Murray ever did. I think it's because of Murray's sheer enthusiasm and excitement was just infectious. Many other commentators seem robotic or dull, so their errors become an annoyance. Not so with Murray, who engrossed himself with the event, which made his Murrayisms iconic in a good way.

To me, he was THE undisputed voice of Formula One, when I first tuned in at the end of the 90's with Hakkinen/Coulthard Vs Schumacher/Irvine and when teams such as Jordan, Minardi, Tyrrell and Arrows were still around etc, Murray Walker was the 1st voice I ever heard when tuning into Formula 1, he was excited for every single race that he commentated on no matter the occasion and he made the absolute most of each race whether exciting or boring he defined the races, the commentators these days for example David Croft are severely lacking in providing exciting commentary that not only sounds robotic however at the best of times can make you fall asleep. In words that can only be appropriate for who in my opinion was the best commentator of all time for Formula One we can proudly say.. For one last time and it's GO GO GO!! RIP Murray Walker, you can now go have a long overdue catch up with the late James Hunt.

Watching this again recently - I think this might be one of the most lovely tributes I've ever heard given after the death of someone. Given with such genuine warmth of someone who clearly really knew him. It speaks volumes of Martin that he took the time to visit Old Murray in a care home. His comment about Murray not wanting to bore Martin with his ailments, but even at that point, wanting to chat about this passion with his old mate is just such a lovely memory. And Martin's simple reference that he's "gone up to heaven" - made me tear up a bit. Martin doesn't strike me as the sentimental type, so the child-like (in a good way) simplicity of that thought was incredibly powerful.

Murray represents everything I loved about motor racing when I first became an enthusiast in the late 1980s. Martin took over Murray's commentating mantle beautifully and is second only to Murray as the greatest, English-speaking commentator ever (imo). The best partnership though was Murray and James. That was just pure perfect energy and balance between those two. Murray's one of the last of a priceless breed. It's a cliche but so apt with Murray....."they won't make 'em like that again".

Murray was the youngest old man i've ever see. I can't imagine having a mind as sharp as a young man despite living almost a century.

RIP Murray Walker. You got me into F1 as a young boy in 1995 and I loved your brilliant and passionate and sometimes hilarious commentating. I still have Murray's Magic Moments on VHS and your autobiography. You are going to be so missed.

The fact no one has anything bad to say about him speaks beyond words. The fact he's been "off the scene" for so long but still be *that* respected is incredible. He will be thoroughly, thoroughly missed.

Dear Mr. Walker, I thank you for the life you lived, the passion you embodied, the lessons you subtly taught us all at one stage or another, during our shared infatuation with the greatest sport on the planet . . Formula 1. F1 has been and could only be F1 because of your humble, larger-than-life existence within it. I will always appreciate and forever remember the Great Sir Murray Walker! "Don't be afraid of death; be rather afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever . . . You just have to have lived!" --- : William Shakespear :--- R.I.P Respect, Johnny

Wonderful words Martin, thank you. Murray, for me, you will forever be the voice of F1, the many gaffs, dramas, nail biting finishes, as well as, the unfortunate tragedies. Time for the post race party, I’m sure a glass or two will be raised when you meet up again with Gilles, James, Ayrton, Roland, Jules and Stirling 🙏☺️

Murray was part of my growing up and finding the love of F1, he added so much to the atmosphere, every Sunday was a pleasure to watch races with his great voice commentating and the mistakes were all part of it. RIP Murray, Love you lots.

Martin is as much a national treasure as the great man himself. How privileged we were to have them both in the commentary box for a few years. RIP Murray. Your voice immediately takes me back to Sunday afternoon, watching the GP with my Dad and loving every second.
