I stayed at Warners Dovercourt Bay a couple of times, with my mum and dad in the 60s. Watching Hi-de-Hi always brought back memories of fun times. Sorry to see it's a housing estate now. Times move on and nothing is forever. Great series.

Su Pollard hugging Paul Shane in their final rendition of "Goodnight Campers" was beautiful, as was Ruth Madoc drying her eyes from tears before they started singing.....

This was actually really touching, especially watching Ruth Madoc lose it at the end and Paul Shane trying to keep it together. Thanks for the upload.

I liked Hi De Hi, gentle British comedy. Glad Peggy got to be a yellow coat in the last episode. I watched Are you being served a few days back and realised everyone on the show was dead! Makes you feel so very old. I was only 10 when it was first shown.

This is a wonderful tribute to a BBC comedy classic which will be enjoyed for many years to come. Thank you Perry and Croft for such magical writing and the casting was perfect.

casting...that's the secret. This is why it's so good. So many endearing characters. Along with others such as Dad's Army, Only Fools, Every Decreasing Circles and a few others. You laugh at the funny bits but smile throughout.

@@mikeymoo1291 and cry at the sad bits. Re casting, I struggled to take to the cast replacements. Always preferred Jeffrey to Clive, Mr partridge to Sammy, and Barry to Julian which is why for me series 1-5 will always be the classic episodes

The ending of the episode with Peggy deciding to shout Hi De Hi was brilliant.
@normansmithers76314 жыл бұрын
'hi de hi' was vastly superior to 'dad's army' & 'it ain't half hot mum', maybe because it had as many female characters as men.; there was also a lot of pathos in many of the story lines.
@gazza29333 жыл бұрын
I thought that Su Pollard was a very underrated actress and could switch from comedy to pathos and back again in seconds. A great singer too.

It makes me feel sad looking back at the end of another classic comedy series especially now when there's so few really (if any ) good comedy shows being produced.

Another classic by Perry & Croft. Amazing to think there's now been a bigger gap since Hi-de-hi was on TV through to now compared to the era Hi-de-hi was set in to when it was on TV.

dawn the yellowcoat in the background at 4.10 had a huge crush on her she was stunning, never got much notice in the show but i doubt ive seen a more beautiful woman. loved hi de hi, can relate to it as i worked 2 seasons at butlins in my younger days. the ending was sad too and is not much different from reality of the last days of working at butlins, remember my last day and it was so emotionmal with all the goodbyes to be said. thats why i love hi de hi, could watch it over and over.

@@lizbethanne67 excellent combination of writing, acting and casting. Too many sitcoms now are written by comedians who like to write, produce, direct and star in their own show. They try to be jack of all trades but become master of none. Hi de hi was from the days when people specialised in their chosen craft and it shows

Great show, but I really hated Ted Bovis
@catscan20222 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. I wouldn't say I hated him but he wasn't a very likeable character which made matters worse when Clive was recruited as an upper class version of him. It was only spike and Jeffrey fairbrother who kept him on an even keel and tried to provide him with a conscience. I guess there has to be some sort of contrast with the characters though as it wouldn't do for everyone to be the same but it was difficult to sympathise with ted

sexobscura you obviously haven’t got much of a sense of humour. All of Croft and Perry’s sitcoms were pure comedy gold. And they wrote everything from their own life experiences. So they speak from experience
