The Mike Yanagita scene is actually quite simple - and very integral to the film. Mike’s a really good liar. He tells a story about marrying a woman they both know, but died of cancer. Then Marge is told that none of that happened. The realisation makes her remember how bad of a liar Jerry was when she met him first time round. He actually came across as suspicious, and she let him off. This inspires her to interview him again, then he flees the interview, and the case gets blown wide open. It may seem off, but it's the catalyst that really sets it all in motion. In the TV series, there's a "Mike Yanagita" scene in every season.

Quite possibly the most perfect movie ever made. It's got it all. Drama, comedy, sex, violence, emotional relatability... I dunno. Greed is the thing that unravels the thing that makes us all human. On top of that, the film was set in an environment that most Americans don't know about. Which only amplifies the entertaining message behind it all. I could go on and on about why FARGO is sublime, but I think y'all will get it once you think about it for more than a minute..

There were cell phones in 1996. They were pretty basic, and there wasn't always coverage, but coverage was expanding. In the movie Pretty Woman (1990), Richard Gere's character uses a huge, clunky cell phone, and in City Slickers (1991) one of the characters keeps phoning home from the wilderness to find out about the baseball scores, but his friend in New York keeps fading away because the signal can't always reach him in the rough terrain. Good times. No one imagined there could ever be such a thing as a smartphone. Another good movie from 1996 was The Birdcage.

The TV series is excellent. Each season is a different storyline but all are excellent. I was suspicious that the TV series could be as could as the movie but it is quite well made. Highly recommend. BTW, Marge (played by the wife of one of the Coen Brothers, Frances McDormand) is the moral compass of the story. Her demeanor and reaction to the murders represents the audience as well as the goodness vs. evil in the world.

Wade (the grandfather) may have hesitated to shoot Carl a second time for fear that if Carl died, his daughter might never be found or be executed by the remaining kidnapper (which happened anyway.) Or, having already taken a bullet, Wade may have been going into shock and simply no longer thinking cogently enough to take second shot at Carl--which we all wish he had!

This one of the best movies of all time. Cohen Brothers movies are always A+

The woodchipper, together with the fake foot and leg, is a highlight of the city museum in Fargo (even though the film was not shot there).

The Coen brothers never disappoint. One of my favorites is "Raising Arizona". It's a great comedy. You'll both love it!

You gotta love these movies that have such a great counterweight of humor or levity to lighten what is actually a very violent and tragic tale. The Cohen Brothers and Tarantino are so good at it.

Another Coen Brothers masterpiece. The first one they had in general release is, "Blood Simple". You can't go wrong watching the first one. So fun watching y'all during the journey of this film. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.

I had to laugh when you were arguing about whether it really was a true story. It was very prescient of you because as I am sure you now know, it was total fiction and they did lie when they said it was based on a true story. Glad you liked it too. I have been a subscriber since you started your channel but I haven't watched one of your reactions in a very long time because reactions to action movies *the movies you seem to have gravitated to) are quite frankly boring. The highly rated thought-provoking movies are however, the kind that will get you more subscribers. And when you started this channel you did a lot of them, movies like THE SHAWSHANK REDMPTION and THE GREEN MILE and SCHINDLER'S LIST. So hopefully this movie was not a fluke. It's not a true story. Its all functional. They just like to make people think it is because it's a grounded story that has a lot realistic qualities to it.

It's so odd to see two guys, bundled up against a blizzard, standing in a street that has standing, melted snow on it. The Coen brothers had bad luck with this film. It was the warmest winter in Minnesota for a very long time. They should have just had the guys wear the parkas to match the weather.

He doesn't really care about the lot. He just needs the money to pay off his loans he stole on the dealership cars (which don't exist). I'm sure he would have taken the money to buy the lot, then pay off his loans. The lot deal would have never gone through and he hoped his father-in-law would never figure out he didn't own it. Of course that wouldn't have worked, because he is an idiot.

I'm thinking that when Marge slips in the snow in the first murder scene, that was a genuine unscripted slip. When she looks back she's actually asking if they want to do a retake. That's how it looks to me, anyhow. Incidentally, although the movie's called Fargo the action actually takes place in Brainerd. They just thought Brainerd was a dumb movie title so they named it after the next town down the road instead.
