Hey everyone! Welcome back to our channel!
In today’s video, we are picking berries and I walk you through the garden to give you an update on how things are going. Things are looking good, but we are needing rain! Weeds are beginning to get bad as we get into the hot & dry summer weather pattern. In addition to our blackberries, our peaches are almost ripe too.

Alright weird question here but…: are you using waders? What are you wearing on your legs

😂. Those are brush chaps, typically worn when upland game hunting. These are made by Orvis, and are basically made of heavy duty wader material. When I pick berries I push my way into the briars, brush, & thorns, so these help keep my pants from getting gnarled up in the briars. Most folks who pick wild berries just pick from the outer edge since they don’t like to get their skin pricked or clothes snagged, so this allows me to just push further into the mess to maximize the harvest. I think I did a video on my berry picking gear last year, but I will have to try to find it.

Very good. In the rain forest they hack away with machetes. Ever tried their technique?

@@OneMound1 I have used a machete often to “hack” a trail into the blackberry brambles. I posted a couple videos last year where I was hacking and pushing my want into blackberry brambles that were 10-12 ft tall. I mow trails across the farm to gain primary access, then use a machete to get into other harder to reach areas, then finally wear my chaps to push my way into the clumps.

Sounds like you have a great system! I enjoyed the part of the video where you explained how bugs or pests will be in the fruit. If it would kill a bug who ate it, I don’t really want to eat it. If Mother Nature doesn’t like it then neither do I
