I have a 1964 Farmall 460 diesel that has lost hydraulics, power steering and has a major brake shaft seal leak. I have never worked on a tractor so here was my experience doing the repairs.

I believe I have the gasoline version of this tractor. I also have never worked on a tractor. I didn’t know the year but sure looks similar to yours. Great Job!

@joseroelgonzalez4104, thanks I am glad you enjoyed the video. There were a couple versions of this tractor. Gas or diesel and utility vs standard. The utility like mine has the wider front axle. The standard one has a narrow row crop front axle. The one other option was a hydraulic boost option that has a handle on the left side which bypasses and sends extra hydraulic pressure to the PTO.

Good Job! You seem to have a fine rudimentary knowledge of mechanics. You’re doing great, and smart to buy what it needs while apart. Especially the part on clutch or brake PEDAL SIDE PLAY. You warm my heart of this old man to see you addressed the PLAY in the pedals. They reach a point where the clutch pedal at least, gets SO MUCH SIDE TO SIDE PLAY... that your foot (if not perfectly square on the pedal, or wet, snowy, icy, etc., can flex over enough to cause your foot to slip off the side of the pedal. No big deal??? Well, you even bought new springs, right? Even more force, as you foot slips off, and the clutch pedal, with all the spring force, comes back up and nails you in the ankle. Nasty bruise? Yes I am 65, but I am sitting here with my left leg bandaged up, with FIFTY-TWO STITCHES from my Farmall 560 with clutch pedal play. It was an unmitigated nightmare as I got off the tractor and my wife and I saw huge streams of blood pour down into my shoe. So bad the first clinic refused to work on me, just bandaging me enough to send me on an hour away drive to the Regional Hospital. Four different doctors looked, advised, as a brilliant young lady did a two layer stitch. Like a 3/4” thick piece of flesh, was pulled open and back to even go below the veins and nerves. I was finally told to stop watching... as my blood pressure went to over 200 on both readings! It was most certainly the nastiest thing I have ever seen so far as myself. I’m not here to preach, but please keep your focus on centering your foot securely on the pedal. Wear good bottom ribbed work boots or work shoes. If your pedal is waaay sloppy, do as this gentleman wisely did, replace, re-bush the pedal shaft hole, shim it, anything to take that side play out! I’m sure with today’s safety protocols, they would never allow a machinery pedal to harshly spring back as these can and do. Please be careful to avoid my fate. GOD BLESS all here. Steve

This is the utility (low to ground) tractor and is referred to as an International 460. The tall rowcrop tractor is referred to as A Farmall 460. The international harvester company used the International (utility) and Farmall (rowcrop) designation until the 86 series came out in the mid 1970s.

When you first started talking about replacing the pads I thought no. So glad to see you're not. What needed to happen was to soak them in acetone for a day brushing them occasionally. They will work fine on a tractor. On your car not so much. But they don't get soaked in gear lube normally.

Thanks. Yeah once I measured the thickness I decided not to change them.

Never have i drained the hydro fluid to replace the filter
@beardedfamilyman243
@beardedfamilyman243 2 жыл бұрын
@Brad Stanek, normally you don’t have to drain the fluid. In my case I was replacing the hydraulic pump so there is no possible way nor anyone should ever replace a pump without replacing the filter. Plus after replacing a pump especially after a pump failure you should change the filter twice or at least inspect the filter after running the hydraulics for a while. Plus as the title of the video states it was hydraulic “ failure” , filters don’t cause failures in hydraulic systems.

You mentioned changing the seal where the brake shaft comes out of the casing. I didn't see you remove it in the video. Were you able to do that just by removing the brake housing and the disks first?

@Daniel Whitllow, sorry I haven't had a chance to continue on with the repairs due to lack of parts and time on my part. I'm hoping to continue on with the repairs in January of 2021. I finally was able to find some more parts and get them shipped.

Did you ever figure out what was up with the hydraulics. I did not find a part two video. I have a 460 gas row crop. Just curious.

@1crazynordlander, after putting in a second hydraulic pump and having the same problem I dug a bit deeper and found that the power steering gears were off and causing drag on the hydraulic pump. So just waiting on power steering pump availability to get her all back together.

@@russellzito7502 , I am glad you liked the video. I just put the brakes back together after cleaning them. Had to make some minor adjustments. Sorry I didn't have a video that focused on the brakes.
