Farmall H Restoration: Part 1

In this video I introduce a project of mine I have been working on. I have been restoring this old tractor that was left in a barn for a few years. This video is part 1 of many to come, as there is more work to do. Hope you enjoy the video and make sure you like comment and subscribe!!

It's called a floating oil sump. It's designed to float on the oil so as not to draw from the gunk on the bottom

Nice in depth vid, I see it has the picker hubs, don't see a whole lot of those, I have my late grandpa's 1946 H he bought brand new and it also has the picker hubs, I also have the original hand crank, drawbar wrench and another wrench I think is for the front wheel bolts.

I like the old points system all 3 of my Farmall H tractors are points all 12volts 55k coils. The top (deck plate) the part the deat bolts on to is sure heavy! I use 30w for the engine and lift all and 80w 90w for the rear. I want to put a built IH 350 in a H frame. Wow the oil psi is low. My favorite tractor is the H. thanks for the great videos!

a 350 engine is 175 cu in. the H engine is 152 cu in. A gas 350 engine has a much larger carb. similar to a M carb.

Good work! That overhead line above the rockers is for the crankcase vent system. The rockers are pressure fed from the short tube leading out of the center of the rocker arms.

Thanks! I wasn’t sure what it was exactly, but that makes more sense, As the crankcase vents back into the air cleaner from the governor housing. Makes much more sense!

I own at least one of every letter series farmalls that they ever made. My father farmed with H,s. Of all the farmall letter series i think the H is the less desirable. Not enough weight and HP. A super C will pull as much and has the live Hyd and use less fuel. A M will out pull two H,s. A H is ok for light disking raking hay or a sickle bar mower. i own one H and have 5 M,s

We have a few of the letter series. The H in my opinion for the time was incredibly desirable for its small size and relatively large horsepower for the size of tractor. Out of all the letter series I agree the M would be on top, but I love my H! Thanks for watching!!

I've never heard of the baking soda and water in the cooling system to clean how well does that work? And how much do you use?

Borax or baking soda. It doesn’t take a lot and it works well from my experience!

1948...just trailered it into town today to get new tires on it. Runs like a top but has a few housekeeping things that need done that don't affect how it runs but that I want to tidy up.

That’s great! Sadly not many people have the desire to continue working on these old gems and they’re slowly ending up in scrap yards..
