FAST Mini Bike Engine Swap!

We did it! We swapped the 6.5 hp Predator in this mini bike and now it is very fast. If you have this mini bike and want to go fast, don't bother modifying the existing motor, just go ahead and do a Predator swap. It was a pretty straightforward and simple swap and was well worth it.

This is another channel I watch pretty much just because I think the guys on the channel would be really fun to hang out with and pal around with in real life. The mechanic guy, Ike, in addition to being a great mechanic, is absolutely hilarious. And his "good ol' boy" southern accent is great. I love the content on the channel, but the personalities on it absolutely make it.

I have the same bike and engine. If you want to do this mod, my advice is to grind the front oil drain bolt down. It makes the installation of the engine much easier.

I put a 6.5 on a doodlebug minibike. Wears out tires quick and you gotta lean forward a bit to keep the front end down but it’s awesome!!!

I did this conversion with a co-worker about 7 years ago and it was ridiculously fast even with the restriction on. Not stable, and easy to crash, and we left the stock brakes on. I took it for a spin, and it was wild. Just holding on the handlebars tightly can get you into trouble as you twist the throttle, because the pull of the bike makes you twist the throttle harder :)

question guys, i have the same bike, just bought the predetor 6.5. i need to order clutch. should i just get a regular centrifugal clutch or a get a cheapo torque converter. it may be a tight fit though?

Is it ok the have a gap in the clutch ? I have the same exact setup and the bolt that holds the clutch to the axle, in between had play in it. Do I just add more washers?

Where did you get the rear sprocket. Did you use a 420 rear sprocket 6 bolt with a 1.5 inner diameter? I'm doing the same project and I can't seem to find it.

Hey i'm doing this mod. I have a 80cc monster moto (Black one), and the air box is in the way. Ok now i understood you took it off, but how did you modify it with the gas tube that passes through the plastic, did you take the metal part at the end of the nozzle and just slid it back through the plastic and then took it off. Because when I did it it makes the whole thing wobble a lot. So how did you make the air box fit though it was rubbing against the chassis of the bike

i remember as a kid and racing minibikes at the Saddleback Motorcycle Park in Santiago Canyon, Southern California. I was sponsored and raced for " The Hawk " Racing Team. I rode a modified Zebra Mini Bike, with a 6 horse Techumshe motor punched out with a mikuni 26 carburetor running nitro methane using a torque convertor putting 12 horse to the rear wheel. I was clocked at speeds in access of 60 to 70 miles per hour. Those were the day's.

The best upgrade to life in general is a Predator swap!! I was barely able to fit mine into my 1970 El Tigre (thats what she said). The gas cap is about 3/4" from the frame and the spark plug boot is about 1/4" from the frame.. I also had to modify and flip the exhaust manifold and make it run outboard because it wouldnt clear my sloping rear framerails. Somehow I made it fit and its nothing but pure joy! With 6:1 ratio gearing, the front wheel just wants to stay in the air and thats how I like it :).

I know this is a really old video. But, I just got one of these and I want to get rid of the carb and all the throttle crap on the side of the engine. Is there a slide carb that fits on this 79cc engine? Please help, I hate the stock setup but am not ready to upgrade the whole engine.

Where did you guys get good foot pedals for the mini bike. I have a Mini Baja and it's great but the foot rest pedals were garbage and broke off within 1 day of use. Otherwise a great mini bike. Where can I get good aftermarket pedals like the ones on your mini bike so I can put my feet up again while operating this? Thank's.

remove the 4 mounting bolts holding the current motor on, unhook the chain, throttle cable and killswitch cable, engine should slide right out, and then basically do all those steps in reverse when putting the 212 on lol

I recently purchased a predator and put it on my mini baja. There is a lot random rattling noise. Do you experience the same thing?. Also I have a comet tav2-30 torque converter and we put it on and something isn't right. I accelerate but then I don't really go fast at all. Also the throttle is super weird and I don't know why. It doesn't spring back and when you push it back and forth from the throttle itself its not smooth. Idk what to do about torque converter and idk if it's not for the 212.

yeah kinda I made sure the engine mount bolts were really tight and that might have done the trick. I have another question. the video where you guys put the torque converter on the go kart... the link in the description to go power sports... is that the exact torque converter that's on the go kart? im gonna do another minibike with the predator 212 and I want the right torque converter for it

+EliteBoxer92 I know I'm kind of late, but the rattling is the clutch plates most likely, or if your chain is loose it could be that. My Comet Torque converter does that. And if you are not getting very much top end, put a smaller sprocket in the rear.

+EliteBoxer92 also with the throttle, the predators don't come with a spring on the lever for the throttle, you need to install one. If that doesn't fix the problem I could be your throttle linkage, cable, or the handle. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Owen Bochner Hope he gets it figured out, Does he happen to have purchased the California carbed 212cc predator?? I hear those run lean. I broke mine in with some Molybdenum oil additive and half ounce of 2 stroke in gas. Ridiculously smooth idle and overkill but I had the stuff on hand anyway.

My monkey bike engine failed and i wanna do something simple and put a horizontal engine onto it but what about the engine will i always run forward since there is no gearbox in between the drive shaft and rear wheel? cidoXL The Rotax is a two stroke, and the 212cc is a four stroke- they both have their pros and cons. The four stroke just happens to work better for my purposes (cheaper, more reliable).

Awesome video! I just bought a motovox with a Subaru 6.5 with the governor removed. It has a regular centrifugal clutch but has a lot of torque. I've had it about a week and wrecked it 4 times. I popped a wheelie and it threw me off the back. My neighbor is an old lady and she was in her driveway looking at me like wtf! I just said hey neighbor and smiled and waved. Lol.

These engines only spin at 3600rpm wheras your dirtbike engine spins at 10,000+ rpm. Also these engines should never need a rebuild. But chances are your bike does every 100 - 200 hours right?

Motorcycle engines are made out of higher quality materials, (forged piston and crank, titanium valves or something near) and with much closer tolerances. These little engines make less even though they're bigger because they aren't tuned the same and aren't built with the notion that they can bump compression since there will be a steady stream of air to cool it. Think of it more as an engine from a power washer, rather than a moto engine.

gsxr1kkid My bike is also air-cooled. Just seems a little lazy to be swapping in these slow, belt driven engines, when their are so many better options out there. I guess cheap and easy is all the appeal.

Is it just me who think 6.5 hp from a 212cc engine is pathetic. most 125cc motorcycle engines put out over 10 hp and are good for 30 hp if you put some time and money in to it.

+Schizoman The 212cc engine is a four stroke. I'd bet that the 125cc engines you're talking about are two strokes... They make much more power/cc, but they're a lot more expensive. Plus, these 212cc four strokes we use can be built up to 20 or even 25 horsepower.

+CarsandCameras 2-stroke is much cheaper to manufacture than 4-stroke. And for the power we can take a 125cc 4-stroke yamaha WR. Completely stock it has 14hp.
