Yeah I was thinking this method is pretty much what I already do in FL using edison. It is still too slow imo, I often avoid doing this and just try to quickly find a sample that gets me to a similar place. I don't want to F around in edison to get one specific thing.

MRecorder has two other features that will make your sampling process even faster: 1. It will trim silence at the beginning and end of your sample, using the "trim threshold" setting in the post processing section.If you're working digitally, you can set the threshold to -199 dB by double-clicking it. All your recordings will now be perfectly trimmed. 2. There's a little "WAV" button with an arrow in the big bottom recording panel, where it shows the time and size of the file. Drag that button and drop it wherever you want, and it's just like dragging a file from the browser.

Ableton really needs to implement a proper bounce in place. Something that's in non-realtime like Logic, Studio One, etc. Select a clip or part of a clip, use a key command and just bounce that portion to a new track. It's the most requested feature currently.

I know an even faster method, but it's not free. You can use a recorder by Image Line, called Edison. There is a vst version of it. You can set it up to automatically start recording on play, reducing filesize compared to toggling it with a hotkey. But you'd still have to arm it. The best part is that it has the option to drag and drop the recorded sample directly into your daw. In that case it will save the audio file in Edisons installation path with automated cryptic filenames. You can also save the file manually, which will result in almost the same workflow you currently have. It's an editor, so you could make last second adjustments to the file with fades etc.

Recording independent of transport controls sounds fun. in loads of my tunes stopping transport randomly leaves really cool send fx tails which vary depending on where you stop. Never been sure how to best capture it, this looks like the solution :-)
@shane5003
@shane5003 3 жыл бұрын
My Method - 100% WET FX you want on X Return. For longer stuff Send what u want to X return. Ctrl/Cmd-Shift-R and select the return as the render track. Name it what u know it will be like "rev guitar". Save to project root. Organized. Fast. Drag in rendered sample from "Current Project" on left. No need for extra folder. If it's a short sample, send to x return (you can map this too for quick on off), solo that return, and use your resampling track to capture. You can avoid getting things further down the track into the delay network by just sending what u want at that moment to the FX. Mapped buttons work fine for this if you need it to be super accurate and fast but usually really just the mouse is good enough. Other methods I used to use - If it's audio duplicate clip and open in external editor (adobe audition pre ver 2 or cool edit pro open in less than a second). Perform all destructive editing there with saved shortcuts. So you can have a saved reverb shortcut and then reverse with shortcut and alt tab back to DAW. That whole process takes about 4 seconds as its all offline but it has to originate from an audio clip and you don't get vsts in cool edit. Use Later Adobe audition for vst support but longer load times. I am fine with Audition 1.5 reverb for reverse reverbs its not going to sound "real" anyway. Another audio only method is have tracks with fx you want and drag the clip to that track then render with that track soloed. Drag in from side as described above. It's only for audio but more explicit than the sends. After 20 years of doing this shit that first method is all I use now though as its universal / works with MIDI tracks and it requires no extra setup as I have all the FX I want on returns anyway. If you want hyper optimized speed and its audio use the 3rd method with external editor.

Freeze is still very effective method to do bounce in place with dragging highlighted freezed stuff into a new track. The only disadvantage if the freezed track is a way too long, entire track would be freezed and that can steal a bit of time. But hey you don't even need a browser or any additional setup to do that.
@sanjacobs6261
@sanjacobs6261 3 жыл бұрын
Another disadvantage is that you still have the issue of the reverb tail colliding with the next sample, so you'll have to go through and mute stuff and unmute it afterwards again, and if the you're using a plugin on the track that is something thicc like a Kontakt patch, the unfreeze might take a while.

You could set it up in your master channel by default, and with a key map you almost don't need to do a single thing other than map the file destination. If you have a certain effect you do this with all the time (like a reverb) you could keymap that as well and have both the reverb and the recorder turn on when you press the hotkey, then off at the same time when you're done recording. 10 seconds to set up to not have to do it again while you work on the project saves loads of time than setting up a resampling track everytime.

@NaPzt3R
@NaPzt3R 3 жыл бұрын
One isn’t better than the other, it’s purely preference. I don’t think waiting +30 seconds is a problem. I regularly wait +10 minutes for entire mixes to render. If you don’t have much time, this method seems cool, but the convenience of Freeze and Flatten is that the sample renders in place, which I prefer.

@zugrath16
@zugrath16 3 жыл бұрын
@@vain.a2 Like Mr Bill said in comment below, it's a pain if you're working on bigger projects and have to freeze a whole track. That could take a long time to render. And you can only freeze and flatten one track a time I think? So you can't bounce multiple tracks to one audio file. I guess you could just use the "resampling"-mode to record the output of several tracks ... but then you also have to solo the specific tracks you want to record and also bypass all the plugins on the master (since "resampling" just records the output of the master channel). In Logic you only have to select the the regions you want to bounce and press ctrl + B and all the work is done for you. And only takes like 1 second. Which is quite handy if resampling is a big part of your workflow.

Any reason you don’t freeze and then alt/option drag into a new audio channel? Freeze is effectively a bounce in place no? Much easier than recording after enabling resampling like your original method.

A few reasons. 1. It's slower on bigger sessions (which I mostly deal with) 2. You can't render artifacts that way 3. You can't name your sound-design that way, they just get named something like "Freeze 10978460.wav" which is annoying if you're trying to find something later

I didn't realize you couldn't bounce in place in Live? I still haven't found a good reason to leave Logic yet... but i still want to learn Ableton 😂

Does anyone have an idea of what the work around would be so my newly recorded sample does not include the time it takes me to hit "tilda" to then control + space bar? Sometimes sounds have slow attack therefore there's no initial warp maker for transient so i have to go into the new sample and line it up where its right and that takes too much time...if somehow I could have the KeyNote for m recorder "record" also be cntrl + space so when when i begin playback it records then..but it wont let me key map a combo. Or is there a way to reset the keycommand for ableton's control space fucntion to another key command?

MRecorder can trim silence at the beginning and end of your sample, using the "trim threshold" setting in the post processing section.If you're working digitally, you can set the threshold to -199 dB by double-clicking it. All your recordings will now be perfectly trimmed.

FL studio users: Hit Shift+E on a reverb send track and it'll record your wet sound when you hit play. And then just drag the sample back into the track. :)

FL Studios user are probably feeling superior for having Edson by default for this kind of "fast resample"
