I'm interested in becoming an LPN in the state of AZ but I work full-time + OT. My question(s) are, what is the best route to start going to school and not jeopardize grade or hours. I was thinking of taking 1 or 2 classes of prerequisites that are needed to be an LPN, that I can do at home online. But, I also don't want to take 3 years and lose interest or spend too much money in the process. Any advise or counseling would be much appreciated.

So I did have my mindset on respiratory because the field fascinated me but I also had nursing in the back of my mind because I wanted more options in case respiratory small workplace settings didn’t work out for me. I also thought about how competitive nursing programs are. Well I ended up proving I could pull a 4.0 and all the prerequisites so now I’m really leaning towards nursing 🤔 I did want to get into the field as soon as possible but I do bottle service right now so I don’t make terrible money I’m actually pretty damn comfortable so I could take my time and take the longer route into a nursing program. Thanks for this video!

Great advice. I live in SC and we are experiencing huge shortages like everywhere else. I have been an Rn for 4 yrs and was an LPN before that. Even 10 years ago the entrance into RN programs were extremely competitive. LPN school was competitive too but not as much as RN school. Now it's just crazy. Community College waitlists are 2 and 3 years. They are also raising the standards for entry and requiring student to become CNAs first to pay your dues kinda I guess because we also have a sever shortage of CNAs. Another good option that may not be doe everyone is trying LPN first. Good luck to everyone.
@DabidRobinson
@DabidRobinson 4 жыл бұрын
With such shortages it, is crazy that there is such a waiting list to get into nursing school. I do like the idea of nurses being CNAs first, this way they can really get a perscpective and be more respectful of their peers. There could be a shortage for CNAs because they are underpaid, and the expectations of them are high. That is good that you were and LPN and now have your RN.

@cic5347
@cic5347 3 жыл бұрын
Hi I am going to be doing a MA program in the Fall. I looked up a lot of info on this and everyone says don't do the degree program, it's longer and it doesn't change your pay. Employer's are only interested if you went to an accredited program and got a certification AAMA/CMA or AMT/RMA some employer's except the NHA, NCCT, or the AMCA or no certification just proof of completion from an accredited MA program. Doing the MA program at a Community College is much cheaper than a trade school/private school but the program is longer and you might have to complete a few prerequisite classes first like I had to. You can always reach out to the head of the nursing department at the school you're interested in to find out if the MA program is accredited and see what exam you would be eligible to take once you complete the program in order to get certified. You can then reach out to that organization they tell you by email to confirm if that school is infact accredited with them. That's what I did. With Community Colleges though you don't really have to worry about that. With some of the trade schools/private schools however I believe you have to watch out for and really make sure that they are accredited. Best of luck to you.

That seems unusual unless it’s an accelerated program or the person has already done pre-reqs. If it’s true then I can’t imagine the tuition will be extremely high. Be careful with some of these private nursing schools because a lot of them end up being forced to shut down. If they are saying a lot of classes are being held online then that’s possible because of Covid but of course clinicals need hands on practice so they can’t be done online.

@@kaddytouray681 yes, do not put yourself into debt for a nursing degree or any degree. Most 2 year associate RN programs are under $10k at community colleges. I don’t advise anyone to spend upwards of $50k or more on a nursing degree. A lot of these private schools are predatory and some aren’t even accredited. Nobody should ever pay a quarter or more of the cost of med school on a nursing degree. It doesn’t make financial sense to be that much in debt for a degree that pays new nurses $24-$27/hr on average. I’ve witnessed way too many new nurses spinning their wheels, living beyond their means and hating their jobs all because they got too far into debt while in nursing school and after nursing school (buying a home, new car, luxuries etc) I highly recommend a community college and if you can’t go that route at least make sure the school is accredited, has a high NCLEX pass rate, and the tuition is affordable.

I’m on the waiting list for respiratory at Gateway number 82. It looks like they have it we’re if your an honor health employee you can get in sooner. My question is if I get a part time job with honorhealth would I still have to work there the whole time I’m in the program? I’m not looking to work while going to school. And what also confuses me and upsets me is the topic of would honorhealth employees be admitted before me even though I applied to the program before them? Would you happen to know if honorhealth employees still have to complete the same prerequisites every other student has to in order to be admitted?
@DabidRobinson
@DabidRobinson 3 жыл бұрын
You may have to work at honor health for a certain amount of months? Before they will submit your information to get you on the list. I suppose you could quit honor health shortly after joining, just don’t tell them your intentions on interview. Honor health probably has spots reserved, so you shouldn’t be pushed back any farther but those who get in through honor health will get in much faster than you will.

It really depends on the school. So my school put us on a waiting list, some people waiting 2-3 years. Some schools go off of points, so if you have more classes or tasks under you belt then you have a better chance of getting in over other people and then some schools are so expensive that if you pay then... you'll get in quickly. So i would research the school you are lookin into.

So at the moment I am a senior at my high school doing CNA. I am still waiting on direct colleges in hearing back from other universities. I was honestly just going to do my GE classes at a community college. I was also going to become an EMT and put myself through school. It is stupid in my opinion to go to school and waste all this money when you could just transfer from a community college to a university.

Some people got to work while they get the credits... While I get the title of the video is important for people with means in a rush, some people are just trying to speed up the process with what they have to work with. Now im not personally going for nursing degree, Im sponsoring someone who is. Free room and board etc. but University isnt an option at this point and she is working in the field as a certified CNA which in the end at her pace is a slam dunk for nursing school as her GPA sits comfortably above 3.5. When shes done she will have no debt. So I get what you are saying, but some folks want to come out the other side with no debt. :) I manage rock stars, not put people into debt. :)
