Check out his channel, he has a buncha videos of it. He has a faceplated T56 magnum, and a force-sensitive shift lever. When he pushes/pulls on the gear stick, the ECU cuts spark timing momentarily - which unloads the engagement dogs in the trans allowing the slider to pop right out of current gear and into the next.

Billet is billet, they both will make same hp if needed but real street isn't going to build a billet manual 2j when they already have a non billet auto one in the 6's that will always be faster.
