As a native english speaker, if you want to sound more professional instead of ‘a number of’ I would say ‘multiple’. “There is a number of problems” vs “there are multiple problems”. I just think it sounds a little more natural but tbh no one would notice or care, it’s just my opinion.

In synonym videos like these, always make sure you check your understanding of the word with a native speaker, or at least a dictionary. Most of these words and phrases are not a perfect match. They are useful to learn, as long as you truly understand how you use them.

You can reach 6.5 easily by improving your grammar and vocabulary, after that, what you need is experience to reach higher score.

Is it necessary to use formal forms in writing? I have never studied English through books. I watch lots of videos now and in the beginning and that's it. So I can't tell if there is a difference between "I suppose" and "I believe".
@lysokheng4964 Жыл бұрын
Its necessary to obtain higher score, but not to the point where you HAVE to use it, of course it will affect your score if you use informal but not too much if you arent aiming for band 9. To be honest if you're taking academic, you're taught to use formal language already, about 50-60% of what you said are formal, you just have to avoid using idiom and slang, if you do, you barely as much score. It only account for, i think, one fourth of the test, by avoiding idiom, slang, and contraction, you basically avoid losing about 10-20% of your score, and if you got perfect mark for the other category, you would get about 70-80% score of your test.

Both are quite formal. There may be situations where you can use them, e.g. in Part 3 where you talk about more serious topics. Your speech should be natural. Don't try to make it artificially "complex"
