CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Beth (Anne Archer) comes home to find an unpleasant surprise on the stove.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Fatal attraction" has become a household term for love turned to murderous obsession, thanks to the success of Adrian Lyne's 1987 movie. Dan (Michael Douglas) is a family man whose one-night affair with Alex (Glenn Close) turns into a nightmare when she insists on continuing the relationship, claiming to be carrying his baby. Alex systematically terrorizes Dan, even temporarily kidnapping his daughter, in her attempts to win back his affection. Douglas' besieged family man guiltily tries to preserve his marriage and family from the consequences of his own indiscretion. Close's performance as the love-struck psycho-siren remains her signature role: She conveys the buried feminist message of the film in her challenge to Dan to take responsibility for his sexual behavior. Though many critics acknowlegded the film's striking similarities to Clint Eastwood's 1971 film Play Misty for Me, Fatal Attraction spawned numerous other movies about middle-class families besieged by a lone psychotic intent on infiltrating and destroying the fabric of the family unit, including The Stepfather (1987), Pacific Heights (1990), The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992), and Fear (1996).
CREDITS:
TM & © Paramount (1987)
Cast: Michael Douglas, Anne Archer, Ellen Hamilton Latzen
Director: Adrian Lyne
Producers: Stanley R. Jaffe, Sherry Lansing
Screenwriter: James Dearden

I remember seeing this at the movies. When they showed the pot boiling and then Ellen running to the rabbit cage, you start thinking, "Oh, no!". When the camera is pulling in tighter and tighter on each object, switching back and forth, you're *really* going, "No! She's not *that* crazy, is she?".

Karrah Dedominick Dan got lucky, then. But Alex was the baddest of them all when this came out. I always felt so bad for Ellen in the following scene, as she lost her pet rabbit (and we can sure bet they didn't tell her what they found in the kitchen!), and then her parents fighting on top of it.
@FantasyWargnome

+Shades Below Not telling the kid what happened could be hard. "Listen up, kid, your pet rabbit just went for a looong walk. And that smell in the kitchen is just some animal that your father somehow had to boil, I think it's a raccoon, that's what startled me. And it is just a coincidence that these things happen on the same day."

People are missing the symbolism in this scene...long time ago, they used to use rabbits to test if a woman was pregnant (they would inject the woman's urine into the rabbit and then open the rabbit up and check the ovaries to see if the woman was pregnant)...this led to the popular expression "the rabbit died" to describe when a woman became pregnant...in this film Alex claims to be pregnant with Dan's child...hence she kills the rabbit to send a message.

Poor rabbit, this is where the phrase “ bunny boiler “ was used, Alex’s obsession with Dan at this point went too far by claiming she was pregnant with his child.

Fyi, you need a much larger “hutch”/enclosure for your rabbit and it needs to be inside with you with the outside one being used when it’s comfortable temperature (think spring) and you can supervise them. They also need a buddy and lots of attention/playtime/supervised “free roaming” time outside of their hutch (think 10+ hours a day).
