I was on a doomed summer vacation, finding FF3 in a nearby arcade saved the vacation for me.

Fatal Fury has a fascinating saga. It's wild how different it was to most games. SNK definitely took chances. Story development, rivalries, and taking on the unknown. Play style, movesets, and so many characters to choose from. It was ahead of what other games were trying back then.

The "Real Bout" series is were Fatal Fury really shines.

The plane shifting in this game is like the precursor to the side step mechanic from 3D fighting games.

Left out the best part about FF3. When KOing an opponent there’s a chance you might knock them into the background or send them flying off screen altogether.

Would be happy to see more SNK content, I'm from the crowd that has Samurai Shodown II as the best fighter OF THEM RUDDY ALL. I really miss having layers on the stage to jump across! Added some superb depth for what there was at the time, the games never failed to impress me in the arcades.

In many ways, Fatal Fury 3 is my favorite of the series so glad to see you covered its SNK content is often my favorite that you make. One small difference of opinion: the hidden desperation moves aren’t simply a matter of a code, they have different pre-requisites depending on the character and then they require a different input than the normal desperation moves. In fact, due to keys required to perform to enable using hidden desperation move inputs in the first place, it is impossible to input them in the version Fatal Fury 3 included in Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 for PS2. Thankfully, this is not the case in the ACA port now selling on PSN. Remember first seeing this at a local arcade and playing the PC version some years later. This game always felt ahead of its time, and especially liked the movement, cut-scenes and story. Was also the first game I remember with fake moves and changing backgrounds. Only downside that comes to mind was that some moves had very difficult inputs.

Again...legendary men..return.. Fatal 2..sp were a punch in the face back then.. (specially in europe 50hertz..). Fatal 3 is were the full 'gpu' neo geo started,the ambiance is really great and the box aes is awesome. After the Kof series..sweet 90s.

This game has my personal fave Terry bogard theme song, Big Shot. Also I love the visual improvements over 2/special.

It’s nice to see a Neo Geo fighter that uses 3 planes of scrolling more so than the zooming in and out effect, which tends to have 1 gorgeous plane in the background (although sometimes they have 2 planes with zooming).

For YEARS, I never knew they still made Fatal Fury games after part 2. I always thought King Of The Fighters was like a spiritual successor LOL.

I actually thought Real Bout Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu was Fatal Fury 3 for a bit. It wasn't until the end of '96 when found other friends that were into this and Art Of Fighting/Ryuko No Ken. In fact at the same time I found out about this game I also found out about Art Of Fighting/Ryuko No Ken 3. FYI I hope you talk about Last Blade; a highly underrated and almost forgotten SNK game. As well as gettinh around to Art of Fighting/Ryuko No Ken 2.

Randomly, the liquor store by my elementary school had a hand written "Street Fighter III" sign put over the title on the original Fatal Fury to try and get more quarters from kids, despite it clearly being a Neo-Geo game.

Fatal Fury 3 is really when the series began to come into it's own in terms of quality and a gameplay system that wasn't just a good clone of Sf2 like FF2 and Special mostly were. Then the Real Bout series took the foundation set by FF3 and kicked it into 12th gear.

I love that we got not only the Terry Bogard trailer for KOF15, but now we also gotten this video right after! Because I don't play the OG Fatal Fury series as much as i do Real Bout and Garou, I dont have much to say about his entry. Only things i can say are i liked its roster screen, the game improvements that were made, and the music of course!

I so wish SNK would revive Fatal Fury. It's been too damn long. Terry and gang have been in what I call "KOF Purgatory" It would be great to re-visit the adventures in SOUTHTOWN with Terry and Co. facing a new threat, and a MOTW's 2 where we find out what happened with Rock and Kain.

Real Bout Fatal Fury Special 2 is my personal favorite of the Fatal Fury titles. Waiting for Top Hat to review Garou: Mark of the Wolves game was amazing to play and looked gorgeous SNK new how to get the best out of their hardware.

If it wasn't for SNK 99% of the things in fighting games wouldn't exist. KOF's annual releases for almost a decade where they focused more on innovating game mechanics than updating graphics.

Technically speaking, "Street Fighter 2" also had a second fighting plane but its use was relegated only to Vega (Balrog Jpn).

The best Mai shiranui design was in the Fatal Fury 3. I really hate her original costume its look ridiculous design and still hate to this day which FF3 her costume looks feel right,feels more ninja’s.Sad SNK never reuse said costume in future game anymore.

Whats the connection and story link to king of fighters series?

SNK threw everything at being the next SF2 killer cabinet. Art of Fighting, World Heroes, Fatal Fury. Fatal Fury had the best base lineup to draw in players. However when SNK did King of the Fighters tournament games, it really was polished, nice smooth fighting game execution.

basically, every fighting game copied the fatal fury series. specials, combo mechanics, counters, parries, side steps, story arcs and story modes, fighter select, tech-counters with depletion of gauge, cancels and super cancels, secret bosses, normal and alternate endings, etc. etc. etc.. i mean seriously could keep going. street fighter series really doesn't compare as it really just ripped off everything and just kept re-releasing the same trash game with updated shit and a new hyper super turbo champion world tour name. i actually remember the 90's. fatal fury was far more popular than street fighter in the arcades as it was the best selling fighting game series in arcades. it did not port well to home consoles and that is where street fighter became popular in the west, but in japan fatal fury still rained supreme above all the rest. not to mention the OVA's and the Movie! we need more fatal fury games and another movie. i would love to even see an rpg made by namcoXsnk. call it: tales of southtown. make it look similar to tales of legendia. fatal fury has one of the most fleshed out stories that would transition beautifully into an rpg. that is how good of a series it is. street fighter is really just boring and garbage. never used played it. played dark stalkers more than street fighter.
