In India MTB is mostly used because there are not much roads in urban areas... 😂

I think in India it is mostly the cost factor; as you said, the MTBs can even start from 5k (although they are not built as such). Also mostly people dont't exactly know which kind of bike they are buying. They end up buying MTB because of the looks factor..

It depends on many factors, mainly on the bike and the rider. A normal hybrid bicycle (not so expensive) can go around 20-25 kmph easily considering the rider is a regular. Given a better bike, the same can reach a speed of 30-35 kmph. Speed of hybrid cycle depends on gear.
