Insights I have been gathering in preparation for becoming a father both from the psychological intervention of Parent Child Interaction Therapy and wisdom from mentors.

One thing I’ve learned from being a father and interacting with my son... when he, I or both of us become emotionally charged is to sit down face to face, take a deep breath and talk about the situation. If either of us starts letting our emotion take control again, we breathe and start over until both of us can feel we’ve been heard. Started this when he was around a year old, and it still sometimes surprises me how much he understands. Proud papa moment when I see him use this technique with other people!

I've been surprised with how many times I've seen my kids struggling with a thing, and I tried to correct that behavior or help them through it, only to realize the very same day that I'm acting the same as them. Like how a tiny problem will set them off and result in a grumpy attitude for hours. And then the moment they misbehave, it puts me in a grumpy mood from which I can't find my way out. It's humbling, and thankfully gives me a bit more compassion when I see them struggling.

We need to learn to live now, the way we want our kids to live. Start embodying now. Train yourself. I don’t have kids right now but I expect to probably have kids within the next 2 years and I’m working through trauma and voicing my own needs. Sometimes I feel like it’s not worth it or that it’s going to take too long or maybe it’s too big. But then I have to remind myself that this is worth it. For me and then for the lasting effects on my kids, for the ability to handle their pain rightly by showing them how i handle my pain properly instead of making them handle it for me. I refuse to repeat trauma because I didn’t want to do the work to break the chain.

These are such good lessons. I just became a step dad and me my step son have really created a special bond up to this point. I'm very excited to continue to see it grow. My biggest thing is to show Christ in all that I do so I'm now consistently speaking about Jesus and then showing behavior ls that represent Christ in our actions. It has super boosted our bonding/bonding time and I couldn't be happier, I can see when he looks at me he is just soaking it all in like a sponge and it melts my heart. Thanks for these lessons and encouragement.

Hi. I love your content however I personally don’t use time out with my daughter, she’s 2 now. If she’s kicking the ball on the tv I’d redirect her as in guid her outside. If it’s raining or we can’t go outside I would explain to her why we don’t play with balls inside and we would go and find something else to play with. With the veggies, I wouldn’t force her to eat it. Also she chooses what veg we are putting on our plate. Most of the time she eats them. One thing I’ve learn in my journey as a parent is that it’s not my job to feed my child my job is to provide the food. If she’s hungry she’ll eat if she’s not she won’t. Basic survival mode ✨ it worked so well for us. And still to this day. Disclaimer: this doesn’t mean my way is the way. Just sharing what worked and still working for me. 🥰

I'm a father of 2 boys and struggle with all these every day. Some days I hit the nail on they head. Other days I fall far from the tree. I just rinse and repeat! And it's constantly changing as they grow older! But would trade it for a second! Great episode!

I’m not a father or becoming one but I watched all of this from a son with child trauma who is working through it all and grounded and focused that’s it’s all there and it’s part of me but doesn’t have to define me. I would love to hear your thoughts on all you spoke in this video from a son perspective. Mentioning what tends to happen when some of these techniques didn’t happen at all or are applied way too hard on a child. Just my thought about your amazing thoughts. Thanks for sharing this 🙏🏼

Congratulations on your baby girl, you'll be a great father. I have a little favor could you talk about trying to heal from a death. My brother (Randy) passed away in March of last year from cancer. He was my best friend he was my hero he was everything to me. I'm not handling it very well, I can't seem to pull myself to gather and getting out of this funk of sadness and always crying. He was only 62, I'm grieving things we will never do, I don't know if I ever will get to a happy place again. I'm married 28 years and he is grieving also but different then which is ok. I know its a lot to ask, I followed you her from tick tok because some of your videos have help me. So happy you do what you do.

My son is nearing 3 years old. Is there any way you'd like to reach out via email, phone, or whatever to talk a bit? It's still really recent for me and my son has been really thriving even despite separating. You're going to do great just on the concept that you care, you've got a lot of knowledge, and now all we need to do is have you apply the good stuff to your baby. :)

I might be late on this, but I was wondering if you can add CC for those with hearing disability or those that prefer subtitles. The auto-generated one isn't always accurate. I love your videos, and I feel like you'd be able to reach a larger audience with that. Thank you!

I have a child due in a bit under a month and many of your videos have helped me with the mother seeing as we are both young and also not married. "Marital Conflict" was actually a great video even though we aren't married. I would like to ask though, is there any way you could do a video about Insecurity in a relationship. Like what it feels like to constantly be accused of things and have to reassure your partner. Like how should I handle always being guilty until proven innocent. You briefly went over that in Marital Conflict but could you touch on that a bit more in depth?
