The ventriloquist's dummy really is one of the most remarkable pieces of art. Vastly underappreciated. It seems like it requires so much expertise in so many different categories: caricature sketching, carpentry, woodcarving, painting, casting, mechanics, upholstery, and God knows what all else.... It's really a lot like building a musical instrument sort of like a piano. Except rather than it being a musical instrument, it is a completely visual instrument played by a performer who uses their own voice to make it sing.

I love it. The mechanics, the upper lip movement, the whole thing reminds me of the figure in that old English and a great book, "Ventriloquixm for Beginneres " by Wil Holden. I made six figures myself for fun. None of them came out nearly as great as this one. Fantastic job. Thank you for sharing this. It was delightful.

What brand and type of paint is used to paint his face? My son wants a Slappy dummy for Christmas and I can’t find one anywhere so I purchased another dummy in hopes of painting it to look more like Slappy. 😬

hey, how does the eye mech on this dummy work? I know how the simple side to side works but idk how the all around is done.

The maker has asked to keep his mechanics for the all around eye movements private so that part of the video has been left out, sorry.

I think that there is a lever that will move the eye section up and down, and that section is where the eye mech to look side to side and the blinking mech are, so it’s moving that entire section up and down, witch is why the eyelids also go down a little bit wen the eyes go up and down

@@murilog.p.1383 The eyes have sticks out the back of them onto a small board in the middle of the head. The board then has a rod with a ring on the end wich goes all the way down right down to the controls where you can then put your finger in the ring and control the eyes. I hope this helped you. Working on two at once myself its going to be quite a bit of work but working on the clothes again.. Takes a bit of time to find correct clothes This is most inspiring...... looking for winkers and the right set of eyes right now.... Monday Ill be working the heads removing eyes and mouth on both ill be watching this alot thanks much for posting ..

Beautiful piece recreated with skilled craftmanship, what a great idea for a commissioned piece. ;) I don't where the original ended up but based on other film pieces I've seen probably in bad shape. :\ First saw Magic just a year ago but never too late to see a good movie. :D Watched it again recently, it's on Tubi right now so free to watch.

Makers can charge Thousands for a figure depending on quality of the build, this one is made by one of the best so expensive 👍

@@RicksPuppets Id say you make a great one yourself im trying to find a great one .. this one was quite amazing to behold. wondering where the diamond tuck material came from for around torso. id love to own one. we had a Gizmo and sold it but we did cast it. we have a good pull to do a pour great design on inner workings im not finding Chase Wolf now....
