I would love to do this in my back yard on a LARGE scale, where you could walk through it. I saw a house, not far from me that had the beginnings of what I was wanting and it looked like they had possibly used the metal portion of a trampoline and it looks like they slipped on block like from a block wall and then began to fill in with cement. it was interesting and I could see where the person was going, but he stopped working on it. I would have liked there to be different size and shaped pieces like yours, which adds interest and makes it look really old but futuristic all at the same time! I wanted mine to be a division between two yards giving the impression of walking into another world. I truly love the work you do! You are an artist and very talented! Thank you so much for sharing with us!!!!

I’m thinking about the possibility of a similar project as what you described. I wonder what/how much extra reinforcement would be needed to support the weight and stresses of people (up to and including “large” adults) walking through and standing on the structure. I’m thinking this would make a fantastic photo background as well as a unique outdoor wedding prop. Of course, at such a larger size, there would have to be steps up to the opening. I actually envision a matching platform on the “front” side.

I was just thinking you could even press something like slate stone on to the cement to take that texture for an organic look. Not that yours doesn't look organic, it really does. Rock on 🤘😆 (get it?) (rock/cement) 😊

You have sparked my imagination with many of your projects. Being a newbie, I'm still learning and experimenting. Question; could I use water based stains to color the cement? I'm a woodworker and I commonly used Lockwood powdered stains. I can get either water or alcohol based products from them. I'm trying to achieve some sand and rusty hues, so any advice from you would be awesome. Thanks for all you do! Incredible work!

Well thanks for your positive and kind feedback. I do appreciate you watching my video I use 100% acrylic paint to make a stain which I dilute in water. Normally I just go to the paint store when I’m looking for a color I pick out my color and I have the mix the paint and then I start to dilute it to the right amount for the effect of them after.

I can sell to somebody they can take home and put it in their garden and if they wanna give it away or sell it, they could do so if it was real rock, it be a little harder to accomplish if it were real rock

I like this idea, but for me, I would create the pieces in styrofoam, cover the styrofoam with muslin pieces dipped in thin cement, then wrap the pieces in the wet materal until each piece. Once they dry, make up thicker cement and trowel over the pieces. Hold them in place with wooden skewers and a spacer so they are all the same width apart. My reason is that styrofoam holds up to concrete and it is also more "outdoor friendly" than concrete. I DO love working with cardboard, but without a LOT of futzing, it's not really an great outdoor material.

Although I will stay with the cardboard in my case once the cement encapsulate it, it doesn’t have to last it’s done there’s no structural element to it. It’s just simply a form to do the process. Wow, ... and Inspiring. Wondering if this technique might be used for the edge of a garden bed? and could it be durable in hot sun and rain, against wet soil? ... Other Wondering: Could such structures be used as a back drop for an outdoor fire pit. One buddy had a rock structure held up by chain link fence material, curved behind his fire pit; and it radiated lots of heat to the couches and or seats on the other side. Could this technique maybe be used for that?

You did an amazing job making it look like rock, but how long would this last in the elements being made of cardboard? I’ve done something similar using a beef foam not Styrofoam, although if you take Styrofoam and spray it with the latex coding, heavy enough, you can lay some fiberglass over top of it, and it won’t melt, but I can’t imagine this thing. Holding up, but it looks great

Are those just drywall screws that you use on the cardboard? Did you seal the cardboard before putting on the concrete? If so what do you use to seal the cardboard? Is this just a 3 to 1 sand/cement mixture? Is the "stain" you are using a cement color stain or is it acrylic paint?

Yes, just 1-1/4” course threaded drywall screws. Yes, I always seal the cardboard with an acrylic bonding agent to stop the cardboard from receiving water and losing rigidity . This particular formulation mixture was a high strength, fiber reinforced cement not just a mortar mix . The stains I use or 100% acrylics that are diluted in water .

I'm not an expert on this kind of work. I did see your work wayyy back about 10 years ago. You are truly a master. So on the cardboard issue. I don't think it matters if it gets wet or if it crumbles. The ridigity of the mortar or concrete mix plus the fiber makes it stronger, if it was a sitting bench or some sort of seating piece thats another whole procedure to do. Honestly I think the card board was to help shape the structure.

I like what you’re doing but I’m sorry to say that I find that you talk too fast, you don’t explain what products you’re using and you fast forward too much with no sound or music. It makes it hard for me to watch. I really would like to watch more so I hope you are not offended by my comments as they are meant only as a means of improving your subscriber and viewing numbers.

Thanks for your positive feedback… I have a hard time trying to edit video because I make it way too long, but my watch time is so very low. I have some professional help coaching and the content needs to be shortened. That’s one of the reasons I speed up my voice because I kind of talk slow and I speed up a lot of the process. I have spoken a lot on this video but I have edited it out in favor of trying to make it more streamlined in time, I’m thinking there are two types of people those who want to hear the detail and those who just want to get through the video I’m thinking about doing a Patreon part to my channel where in all this excess footage or I do explain everything and I slow things down. Regular speeds will be available to those who want that detail. Thanks again I do appreciate your time and making the comments and your time and watching my video.

Heck, I’m watching on 2x lol. I assume you are aware of where you can change the speed of playback? You may want to play with that. I normally have to change it per video based on speed of person.
