She's definitely a great talent, but she doesn't have the filmography to back it up. Her great roles came in the 70s, and then, fair or not, her reputation caught up with her and she's been relocated to bit parts or straight-to-video schlock.

@@jedijones It's cute that you think Tom Cruise has stayed at the top for 40 years. Dude's range is beyond limited, and I'm not talking about star power or celebrity here. Dunaway was a talent, and could have had a career full of gems and masterpieces had her reputation not earned her the ire of Hollywood elites. Cruise, and even to a certain extent Hanks, were Hollywood stars with lots of Hollywood schlock in their filmography. They played the game, made the most of their limited talent, and stayed in the public eye for decades. Dunaway could have been spoken of in the same way Streep and De Niro are spoken of, and I'd argue she was a more electric performer than Streep ever was. It's just a shame she wasn't given the opportunity to showcase that in her later years.

Weber only started casting people who could not manage the written tessitura or even the actual voice type after the 2000's. This is when Phantoms suddenly became football player build baritones instead of metallic and high belting Tenors as was written. The Christine's became soubrettish light warbly sopranos instead of lyric coloraturas. The Evita's became sopranos with moans instead of belting..and then the Normas became hint ofs singers. Dunaway is in the hunt of transposed school and that was t happening in the 90's early 2000's really. Now it's absurd as they cast people who have half voices or fake it.
