Sad, but true. One thing about Ryuji is he's rather protective of his friends, and he and Akechi...when you think about it, they're actually rather alike, which to Ryuji might be a tad unsettling.

I guess, but I still feel like Ryuji was being uncharacteristically cold here, especially when he was like all “you’re special” and “come fight with us against Shido". But I think what's most damming about this moment was that Akechi's gratitude just sounded very sincere, which makes Ryuji's response sound all the more dickish.

And the team (not even Ryuji) were that callous to Akechi's situation, being a bastard child who never experienced unconditional acceptance. They don't forgive (which is perfectly reasonable) but they do sympathize with him, even Ryuji and Haru.

What I am trying to say is that just because Akechi suffered and the team understands that he suffered, it doesn't mean they have to be kind to him, even if they sympathize. Yes he is a victim of Shido, and yes he was emotionally manipulated- that's why I don't say Akechi is fully evil, because life dealt him a terrible hand. But he still did horrible things and while it may indeed be callous behavior to say things like this to him, it's understandable. It's easy for us to judge Ryuji for being too harsh because we're looking at it from an outside view; but if we put ourselves in his shoes, he's talking to a guy who killed his friend's parents and attempted to kill his best friend, and his entire team. I think he has a right to be a little heated. I do acknowledge that Akechi is being sincere here; please don't think I'm invalidating that. All I'm trying to say is just because he shows genuine sorrow doesn't mean it has to be accepted. I hope I'm making sense. Oh yeah also I said this in an earlier comment but we gotta remember at the end of the day, these guys are all kids, yanno? They're still maturing. I do agree that from a logical standpoint looking over the whole situation that Akechi does deserve some sympathy and that they could treat him less....idk, unfiltered? But they're kids and they get angry and they make choices out of emotion; and that's what Ryuji was doing here: yeah he knows Akechi has suffered too, but he's also mad Goro tried to hurt his friends and that's where he is coming from here. It's a difficult situation overall because Akechi IS a victim but he's also a villain. He's a complicated character. It's like.. you sympathize with him but you're also mad? If that makes sense. @@littenfire3563 There's a lot more going on between those two than what meets the eye. Their showtime move is a perfect example of that. They work in such perfect unision, without having practiced beforehand. Akechi goes berzerk and joker knows how to avoid it just by knowing akechi. He goes in, opens up the enemy for akechi to hit a good attack, then moves out of the way at the perfect time for akechi to come in for the attack. He actually trusts joker in how he just turns and walks away without looking back, because he knows joker will land the final blow, which also gives akechi a moment to regain his composure and control his actions, so he isn't an active threat anymore. He also only tries to kill joker like twice, even though there are so many other opportunities for him to go for the kill, and actually ends up helping on more occasions than he was an actual threat. Him and joker are definatly not enemies, though I wouldn't describe them as friends either really. I'd say they are more rivals, with some kind of mutual understanding. They don't like each other, but they acknowledge eachother, in a way that makes it very possible for a relationship to form between them. If only atlus would let you be gay...

At the very LEAST, Akechi was willing to accept the consequences of his actions head on instead of running away from them. Even with that, I still can’t blame the Phantom Thieves’ passive aggressive actions toward Akechi during the team up, especially Ryuji’s.

Even though Akechi doesn't deserve the right to treat equally, I mean Ryuji and the others have right to be angry but that replies is unnecessary. Akechi accepted his sins and willingly to face the consequences. That's why he offers help from Joker, to make things right.

Haru didn't have that much of a reaction to her dad dying, and Futaba is more likely to get sad or emotional. Phantom thieves are also an example of people that have been wronged by shitty adults, Haru having her dad killed by akechi himself, but they did not become serial killers. You guys are forgetting the reason as to why Akechi was a rival to the phantom thieves. Him and Joker are two sides of the same coin. He hated how even though they all have been traumatized by society, they didn't go apeshit like him. That is why akechi both hates, and respects Joker. So when you guys say "he was forced by shido to murder", that's just not enough of a reason to kill so many people. He has the same power as Joker, yet he did not fight against Shido. The phantom thieves have forgiven, but they have not forgotten what he's done. And I'm glad Akechi accepted the fate he got.

The phantom thieves might be nice and understand the ostracism but they have huge limits and Akechi burned those bridges the day he chose to still try to murder Joker...all for a very selfish and pointless revenge. That is without mentioning that while his murders ruined some lifes, it also benefited Shido and his cronies since they were the ones giving the orders to the attack dog Shido had to remain untouchable. Even if Ren would still try to see the good side, i feel he was genuienly dissapointed at Akechi not only for his decition but when encountering him at the Cruiser..and seeing how he wasted his one last opportunity before third semester. And Ryuji is really loyal to his teammates. Wounds heal but scars remain. (i dunno if that is how the expression goes. If it doesn't..oh boy i did something Ryuji would do)

To clarify what I mean by Akechi being a douche to Sumire, he literally implied he was willing to kill her at her boss fight and then in a text he says: "If you waste all your energy out of combat, you're not just useless. You're a liability." I think the cadaver deserves to be roasted like a steak given the shit he's done and continues to do. Akechi is a douchebag riddled in toxic masculinity. So kudos to Ryuji for ripping him a new one.
