This poured salt on my personal wounds. My husband refinanced our house thru Countrywide in 2007 without me and ended up losing it after we had been living there since 1989. Then he committed suicide and at 57 I became a widow. I'm still trying to recover and it has been nine years. I was married 37 yrs and we met when were 16. Just saying damn.

My dad did this for a living. He had multiple identities. He focused on insurance fraud. He would take the money from all the claims and make various small/medium businesses. He was gifted at running legit businesses. But he was a violent know it all. Treated everyone like garbage unless he thought you were potentially useful. Then he was charming and just happened to be your lucky day.

Pat... its like you've said a lot of times: "pick one industry and become an expert..." and that's what he did!!! No diversification here. He found a "business model" that worked and scaled it. That's a huge lesson I got for legit businesses.

Never underestimate the power of creativity, self confidence and a glib tongue. A successful con artist must possess all of those qualities.

I work in the business. This cannot be done today. Credit history needs to be over 2 years old. Funds to close must be seasoned. Bank funds must be seasoned. Lenders got wise to this after Mr Cox. Underwriters call employers, do income verifications, multiple times. Some register of deeds office hold on quick changes when not done simultaneously with the same title or closing atty.

He did 10 years doing 40 million and Jordan belfort did 2 years scamming 150 million. What a joke

Out of all the podcasts Matt has done, you can see PBD milking information out of Matt and thinking about fraud preventative measures. Other guys just amazed and chilled out. PBD is so engaged, it brings about Matt's story as a side product. I think Matt should do deep-dive podcasts with competent people in the mortgage industry for us to see everything more clearly. PBD simply by being a business guy, analyzed Matt's story in a different light. Good stuff guys!

You have an ability to find the most interesting guests - but they have found one of the kindest, most observant hosts - who after all, is learning how to protect himself from characters such as this should they ever try their shtick on you and yours. What a brilliant and interesting man. I absolutely did not want that man to be guilty. His stories were told with excitement, no choking or forgetting, so you know it isn't made up... he is a storyteller! Slick as they get ... and charming. I can understand how he made such a great living. It would be a perfect match for him b'cuz he is so tightly wired, he needs to keep things interesting in his life at that age -- good thing he calmed down since he had a lot of time to think of it. I know exactly what this guy is saying. I tried working as an honest loan broker back in the 90’s and found out that the corruption was my competition because my potential clients were as crooked as the lenders. After seeing how borrowers were getting ripped off (mostly by themselves) I wrote a computer program to help borrowers understand their finances and work out a plan that would work in their financial favor. What I had thought would sell like hotdogs did not sell at all because people didn’t really care what they would winde up paying as long as they got what they wanted ‘right now’. I was even threatened several times if I didn’t stop talking to lender’s customers/victims. All this guy in the interview did was make stupid/lazy/greedy people happy-until their loans were ultimately foreclosed for non-payment. Oh well, makes it easier to accept Trump’s alleged defeat-people generally deserve the shit they winde up with. I see this same bullshit on my TV every day-“Get everything you are ‘entitled’ to.” The entitlements they are hawking are as phony as a three dollar bill. Check out our national debt-we have run out of our parents/grandparents savings and are now using our kids/grandkids future credit. Kind of like ‘burning a candle from both ends’ but who will get burned in the end?!
