Mazda designed the replacement of these front wheel bearings to be nearly impossible, in this episode we discuss a few options available as our saving grace.

Always enjoy this detailed videos. KZfaq is lacking this type of content for FCs. Also you can download the app google translate and use the camera feature to translate the instructions

The increased price on the FEED (steel) hubs was that they lasted 3x longer than the stock aluminum units. Brutal heat and loads from racing kills the stock aluminum hubs. Good find on the GT-1 units...

One other option for replacing the bearings in the stock hubs is to use a MIG welder (flux core is fine). Weld a bead in a ring around the bearing race. When you're done, it'll look like a circle of weld all the way around the circumference of the race. When the weld cools, it'll contract and loosen the race. Sometimes you can just slam the hub on a table and the race will fall out. If not, use a hammer and drift to punch them out from the opposite side (using the weld as a punch-point. Be careful not to damage the hub. Do this for all 4 races. New ones can be put in with a press, or by using a hammer and drift to tap it in gently (in an opposing pattern), only tapping on the top surface and not the bearing contact surface. Although that being said, next time mine need a refresh I am likely going to just buy the replacement GT1 hubs. Great video as always :)

Thanks for the alternative! Another good budget option in case people can't afford the new hubs. However, I'm getting lazy when working on cars these days and don't mind paying a little extra for the easy way lol.

Alex what are the three bolts on back of OEM hub that are not on RHDJapan versions? Have not taken car apart yet and was wondering.

Aww man, it's been so long since I did this job, I can't fully remember off the top of my head, but that might just be for a specialty tool or something. I don't think anything actually mounts to those 3 holes. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. You could search thru the FSM for any hints.

Hey- thanks for your content. Excellent work, nice ride. I wanted to ask- I am in process of changing my wheel studs on front of rx, but seen you used a different ARP stud than what I ordered from online info. I got 100-7713 GM studs with same pitch & thread as OEM. Did you order the Evo studs because of new hubs? And are there any other issues you found when working the front of your rx? Thanks

I wanted extended studs. So, I looked around to see what would give me not only the correct thread/pitch but also the length I wanted. The ones you got may work as well, but I have a wheel spacer on the car, hence the need for extended studs.

What size dust cap for the FC hub? Do you know where to get a replacement?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I believe the hubs are the same, but the ring for the ABS is pressed onto the hub.

I'm ordering the gt1 from rhd japan and I run a super low FC, was wondering if its the generally same fitment in terms of dimensions for like offset with the aftermarket hubs. I have the PBM spacers too but I have tight enought fitment I never had to use them, but am hoping these fit the same as OEM so I don't even have to worry about it.

They fit just like OEM, only difference is they're heavier because of the stronger/denser material.

Can you change out the wheel bearings in the GT1 HUB? What wheel bearing would I buy to change out just the wheel bearing once it goes bad?

To be honest, I think they took the same approach as mazda and did not design any provisions to easily remove the bearings.

At the top of the website you'll see the option to change from yen to dollars. And i think you can pay via paypal or just use a credit card. It's been awhile since I've been to the site.

Sorry I've been MIA. I don't think they built any provisions to make removing the bearings any easier.

@@AlexFranceschi u good fam, we all have seasons. But I expected that would be the case so I think I'm just going to buy the FDF mantis grip kit, its like a wisefab kit, and the best part is, it uses 370z wheel hubs and it's like $1500. So that's like buying only wheel bearings and heim tie rods 🤷🏿‍♂️

@@dubbleA100 I had to google what the kit was. I'm so out of touch with the aftermarket world these days. Been too busy with work. The kit looks purpose built, that's for sure! But definitely would make servicing the car so much easier.
