Abu Ali al-Rawdhbari said, “Fear and hope are like the two wings of a bird, if they are both balanced, then the bird is stable in flight, and if there is an imbalance, then it could lead the bird to its demise.”
True and praiseworthy fear is that which comes between its possessor and what Allah Most High has prohibited. If it transcends beyond this, it could become hopelessness and despair. Praiseworthy hope is when a person performs acts of obedience through a light from Allah and anticipates His reward, or when one commits a sin and then repents to Allah hoping for forgiveness.

When you feel like you have hope for jannah, one doesn’t need more hope as the sheikh said, but rather he needs more fear. And if one is in disparity, then I don’t think he needs more fear, as the sheikh claimed, but he needs more hope. I hope I didn’t misunderstand. He was talking about the subject in 14:10 roughly.

*The status of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)* What the Muslim must do is venerate his Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and support him, and protect him against everything that may offend him; he must also honour him and respect him. Allaah has stated that this is one of the characteristics of the believers, and He has enjoined it on the Muslims. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “So those who believe in him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Qur’aan) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful” [al-A’raaf 7:157] “Verily, We have sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) as a witness, as a bearer of glad tidings, and as a warner. 9. In order that you (O mankind) may believe in Allaah and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and that you assist and honour him (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and (that you) glorify (Allaah’s) praises morning and afternoon” [al-Fath 48:8,9] Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Allaah has enjoined assisting him, as He says “and that you assist and honour him”. Ta’zeer (assisting) means helping him, supporting him and protecting him against everything that may offend him. Honouring refers to everything in which there is tranquillity and peace of mind, such as honour and respect, and dealing with him with the utmost respect and dignity Al-Saarim al-Maslool (1/425). Respecting and honouring him is not limited to his lifetime (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), rather it is also required after his death. Al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: It should be noted that revering, respecting and venerating the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is required after his death, just as it was required during his lifetime, by showing respect when his name, is mentioned, (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), when you hear his hadeeth and Sunnah, when reading his seerah (biography); it also includes showing respect to the members of his household and his companions. Al-Shifa fi Ahwaal al-Mustafa (2/40). Allaah, may He be blessed and exalted, has forbidden the Muslims to call the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) by his name only, as they do with one another; this is by way of venerating him (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Make not the calling of the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) among you as your calling one of another. Allaah knows those of you who slip away under shelter (of some excuse without taking the permission to leave, from the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم). And let those who oppose the Messenger’s (Muhammad’s) commandment (i.e. his Sunnah legal ways, orders, acts of worship, statements) (among the sects) beware, lest some Fitnah (disbelief, trials, afflictions, earthquakes, killing, overpowered by a tyrant) should befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them” [al-Noor 24:63] al-Dahhaak narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: They used to say “Ya Muhammad (O Muhammad); Ya Aba’l-Qaasim (O Abu Qaasim)”, but Allaah forbade them to do that out of respect for His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He said: So they said: “Ya rasool Allaah (O Messenger of Allaah); Ya Nabi Allaah (O Prophet of Allaah).” This was also stated by Mujaahid and Sa’eed ibn Jubayr. Qataadah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Allaah enjoined that his Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) should be respected, honoured and venerated. Muqaatil ibn Hayyaan said: Do not call him by name when you call him, by saying: O Muhammad; and do not say O son of ‘Abd-Allaah; rather honour him by saying “Ya Nabi Allaah (O Prophet of Allaah); Ya rasool Allaah (O Messenger of Allaah).” Maalik said, narrating from Zayd ibn Aslam: Allaah commanded them to honour him. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Say not (to the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم) Raa‘ina [In Arabic it means ‘Be careful; Listen to us, and we listen to you’ but in Hebrew it is an insult] but say Unzurna (make us understand) and hear” [al-Baqarah 2:104] “O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), nor speak aloud to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds should be rendered fruitless while you perceive not. 3. Verily, those who lower their voices in the presence of Allaah’s Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), they are the ones whose hearts Allaah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and a great reward. 4. Verily, those who call you from behind the dwellings, most of them have no sense. 5. And if they had patience till you could come out to them, it would have been better for them” [al-Hujuraat 49:2-5] All of this has to do with proper etiquette in addressing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), speaking with him and in his presence. They were also enjoined to offer charity before speaking to him. Tafseer Ibn Katheer (6/88, 89). Allaah has warned the one who raises his voice in the presence of His Prophet that he may lose his good deeds, which may be rendered invalid. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), nor speak aloud to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds should be rendered fruitless while you perceive not. [al-Hujuraat 49:2] Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan al-Sa’di (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: This is etiquette to be observed with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when addressing him, i.e., the one who is addressing him should not raise his voice above (the Prophet’s) voice, and he should not speak loudly to him, rather he should lower his voice and address him in a polite and gentle manner, with veneration, respect, honour and esteem. The Messenger is not like one of them, rather they should address him differently as he is different from anyone else with regard to his rights over the ummah and the obligation to believe in him and love him, without which faith is not complete. Not observing that etiquette may lead to serious consequences, and there is the fear that a person’s good deeds may be rendered invalid without him realizing it. Observing proper etiquette with him is also a means of attaining reward and having one’s good deeds accepted. Tafseer al-Sa’di (p. 799). The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is obligatory to execute the one who reviles the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), or criticizes him, or speaks of him with disrespect, whether that is explicit or implicit. Al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: It should be noted that everyone who reviles the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), or criticizes him, or attributes to him any shortcoming in his character, lineage, religious commitment or any other attribute, or undermines his position by means of hints, or likens him to something in a way that implies reviling him, scorning him, belittling him, finding fault with him or criticizing him, comes under the ruling on one who reviles him, and is to be executed. Capital punishment also applies to the one who curses the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), or prays against him or wishes for harm to befall him, or attributes to him something that does not befit his status by way of criticism, or says anything foolish about him, or says something bad and false about him, or criticizes him for some calamities and trials that befell him, or tries to undermine his position because of some human trait that is possible for a Prophet. There is scholarly consensus on this point, from the time of the companions of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) until how, and until Allaah inherits the earth and everything on it. Al-Shifa’ bi Ta’reef Huqooq al-Mustafa (2/214). Fourthly: The words and deeds which put a person beyond the pale of Islam come under the same ruling whether they are said in jest or in earnest, or as a mockery. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “If you ask them (about this), they declare: ‘We were only talking idly and joking.’ Say: ‘Was it at Allaah ( عز و جل ), and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) that you were mocking?’ 66. Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimoon (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals)” [al-Tawbah 9:65-66] Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: This is a clear statement that mocking Allaah, His Signs and His Messenger is kufr, so it applies even more so to deliberate reviling. This verse indicates that everyone who denigrates the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), whether in earnest or in jest has committed an act of kufr. Al-Saarim al-Maslool (1/37)

Is doubt or loss of hope a sin in Islam?

Here are some motivating tips from Allah and the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) to help you raise your degrees in Jannah as well as increase your property in Shaa Allah. I) Raise your degrees 1) Memorising the Quran Abd-Allah Ibn 'Amr narrated that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"It will be said to the companion of the Quran : Recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse that you recite." [ Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood ] 2) Doing a lot of dhikr Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"Shall I not inform you the best and the purest of your deed in the sight of your Master, which is the highest in your degrees, is superior to your spending gold and silver in charity, and is better than confronting and fighting against your enemy, cutting one another's necks?". The companions submitted :"Yes, indeed!". He (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"It is remembering Allah." [ Sahih Tirmidhi ] 3) Doing good deeds(at least compulsory good deeds) and staying away from bad deeds Allah said :" And whoever comes to Him (Allah) as a believer, and has done righteous good deeds, for such are the high ranks (in the Hereafter)." (Quran 20:75) 4) Doing a lot of nawafil (non compulsory deeds) According to Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :" Allah said :" Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant : he hates death and I hate hurting him." [ Bukhari ] 5) How to earn Jannat ul-Firdaws (highest degree in Jannah) Allah said :"1) Certainly the believers have succeeded : 2) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive, 3) And they who turn away from ill speech, 4) And they who are observant of Zakah, 5) And they who guard their private parts, 6) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed, 7) But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors, 8) And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive, 9) And they who carefully maintain their prayers, 10) Those are the inheritors, 11) Who will inherit Al-Firdaws. They will abide theirein eternally." (Quran 23 : 1-11) 6) Making a sincere du'aa that you desire Jannat ul-Firdaws It was recorded in the Two Sahihs that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"If you ask Allah for Paradise, then ask Him for Al-Firdaws for it is the highest part of Paradise, in the middle of Paradise, and from it spring the rivers of Paradise, and above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful." [ Bukhari and Muslim ] II) Increase your property II-1) How to build a palace 1) Reciting 10 times surah 'Ikhlas' The Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:"Whoever recites Qul huwallaahu aHad (Surah Ikhlaas) ten times, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise." [Saheeh al-Jaami’ al-Sagheer, 6472)] PS : It is a very easy way to earn a palace and it only takes about one minute. So you can earn 10 palaces in 10 minutes. Don't waste this great opportunity and try to make this a motivating habit and earn as many palaces as you can. 2) Praying 12 rak'aat in a day Narrated by Umm Habibah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"A house will be built in Heaven for one who prays 12 Sunnat Rak'aat in a day and evening as follows : 4 rak'aat before and 2 after the Dhur Prayer, 2 after the Maghrib Prayer, 2 after the 'Ishaa' Prayer and 2 before the Fajr Prayer." [ Tirmidhi ] PS : According to the scholars, the 4 rak'aat should be performed by 2 prayers of 2 rak'aat 3) Building a masjid The Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"Whoever builds a masjid (mosque) for Allah, Allah will build for him likewise in Paradise." [ Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim ] 4) Abandoning arguments and lies and improving your behaviour Abu Umamah (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"I am a guarantor for a house on the outskirts of Paradise for whosoever leaves off arguing, even if he is in the right; and a house in the center of Paradise for whosoever abandons falsehood, even when joking; and a house in the upper-most part of Paradise for whosoever makes his character good." [ Abu Dawud ] II-2) How to earn other great things in your property 1) A tree in Jannah Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud (RA) reported that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"I met Nabi Ibrahim (AS) when I was taken on Mi'aj (ascension to the heavens) and he told me :"O Muhammad, convey my salam (greetings) to your ummat and tell them that Jannah has good soil and sweet water, but it is barren. The plantation of Jannah is (the recital of) Subhan'Allah, Alhamdulill'AH? La ilaha illa Allah and Allahu Akbar." [ Sunan Tirmidhi, hadith: 3462. Imam Tirmidhi has classified his hadith as sound (hasan) ] PS : It is time to build our own huge forests in Shaa Allah. So let's get motivated. 2) A palm tree in Jannah Hadhrat Jaa'bir (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"For the person who recites 'SUBHAN'ALLAH HIL AZEEM WA BIHAMDIHI' (Pure and Perfect is Allah in his glory and praise], - A date palm will be planted for him in Paradise". [ Tirmidhi ] 3) Treasures of Jannah Hadhrat Abu Dharr (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :" Should I not tell you of one treasure of the unlimited treasures of Paradise?" I replied spontaneously "Oh Rasulallah (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) that would be an honor indeed!" Rasulallah (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"That rare is 'LA HAWLA WA LA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAH."(There is no power and no strength except with Allah) [ Ibn Majah ] 4) A particular amazing room Abdallah Ibn 'Amr (RA) narrated that the Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"There is a room in Paradise whose outside is seen from its inside and whose inside is visible from its outside." So Abou Malk Al Ach'ari (MA) asked :"For whom is it, O Messenger of Allah?". He (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"These rooms will belong to the ones who speak good words, feed the poor, they fast and pray at night when people are at sleep." [ Reported by Tabarani and authenticated bu Shaykh Albani in Sahih Targhib No. 617) PS : These 4 conditions can be done during Ramadan since we have to fast, speak good, feed the poor (even if just once) and pray at night when people are asleep (after Taraweeh for example). So let's all strive for this amazing room. 5) Hoor Al Ain (women of Paradise) The Prophet (Sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said :"Whoever suppresses anger and he is able to act upon it, then Allah (SWT) will call him on the day of judgement in front of everyone and make him choose whichever one of the women of Paradise he wants (of Al hoor Al Ayn)". [ Sahih Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud ] 6) An honorable place in Jannah Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever goes to the mosque in the morning and evening, Allah will prepare for him a place in Paradise for every morning and evening.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 631, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 669 PS : Let's not let go of all of these wonderful rewards. Because remember, the bigger your property, the greater the pleasure. It's time for us to wake up. Share this with others so that you gain as much rewards as them practising. If you want to copy this comment and you use a smartphone, go to Google Chrome then to KZfaq, and then find this video and this comment and you'll be able to copy it in Shaa Allah. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:281) "Fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah. Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly." Surah Al-Anbiya (21:90) "Verily, they would hasten to good deeds and supplicate to Us in hope and fear, and they were humbly submissive to Us." Al-Bara ibn Azib reported : The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, peace and blessings be upon him, said: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ "O Allah, I submit my face to you and entrust my affair to you. I commit myself to you out of hope and fear of you." (Sahih Muslim)

Ibn Al-Qayyim said : " The heart on its journey towards Allah the Exalted is like that of a bird. Love is its head, and Fear and Hope are its two wings. When the head is healthy, then the two wings will fly well. When the head is cut off, the bird will die. When either of two wings is damaged, the bird becomes vulnerable to every hunter and predator." (Madarij As-Salikeen)
