I’m sure if that dickhead announcer actually told him what Huo said instead of “he wants to kick your butt”, he wouldn’t have behaved so violently. The dude was probably honorable in the beginning , but was lied to about what kind of fight he was in.

5:19 He didn't want to face that he was defeated so he charged at Jet Li, Then before going the top rope Jet Li shown mercy and saved the bigger and stronger man Nathan Jones. Soon as accepted defeat he bowed 🙇‍♂️ down then raises his 👋 like A champion, 4:12 At this part of the fight Jet Li breaks his hand + his fingers so if you fast forward 4:22 where Nathan Jones is in A Fighting Stance (Jet Li is in the air about to hit the floor) you will actually see him Nathan Jones with A closed fist ✊. ❌ = WRONG 1. if someone breaks or separates one bone in your hand or breaks your entire hand, Do you think you can use your hand for the rest of fight. YES 👍 OR NO 👎 2. now again if someone breaks the bones in your finger's do you think you can actually close your hand with broken fingers YES 👍 OR NO👎

It was the lack of mercy on the character's part that was the biggest conflict in the movie. Not until the final fight did he finally understand why his father had pulled his punch against the bald man in the opening fight, and pulled his own punch against the Japanese man, sparing his life. (I had to explain this to my nephew, too.)

I like how the main character in this film says something what Chinese martial arts are about, and what Chinese government does not seem to understand. It's not about being the strongest or destroying you opponent. They're a complicated duelling convention, which is supposed to be the last resort, bur without actually harming anyone. It's like European XIXth century duel sword fighting technnique, or even modern sports fencing, vs. actual older combat sword fighting styles. You could harm your opponent if you really wanted to, but you can win a fight without it, and if you tried this XIXth century duel style on a XVIIth century battlefield, you would have been dead in no time. That's why Kung Fu doesn't work against MMA, while being difficult to master and still having some tricks against some roughts on the street, Kung Fu isn't about destroying someone effectively. It must have been for situations when conflict was too fierce to be resolved in argument, to replace the last resort the lethal force is, with fighting convention that allowed to show physical superiority, without actually harming your opponent. Like a chess-game with fists and feet.

@@moustachio334 No, most fights are just ad hoc improvisation without any technique, and some very old combat styles of sabre fight are about executing specific sequences of cuts, with little to no control over them, hoping your cut will hit your opponents much earlier than they hit you. However, if they hit you first, pendulum would likely still make your sabre hit your opponent anyway. That's why XIXth century duelling sabre technique was invented as something different to older combat styles. Duelling in combat styles often resulted in both opponents being knocked out in just a few seconds.

I love that fight, in most others, Nathan Jones is always beaten to a pulp, because he is big and muscular, so he has to be bad, what simplistic world view. This one is always again and again refreshening

This is what true martials arts spirit is like. To protect. To protect yourself, to protect others, and to even to protect your foe. It's because you care, and you fight for life and for peace. That's why you seek to resolve conflicts without anyone getting hurt, as best you can. Several times Huo could have killed Hercules, yet Huo showed mercy everytime. Even a beast could understand Honor. This is a true lesson for all aspiring martial artists. To kill, to pursue death, is easy, shallow. To protect, to champion life, that is true way.

Kung Fu will get you your ass kicked against someone with equivalent experience in BJJ or Catch or Boxing for sure. Against your average aggressive drunken idiot though, it can come in handy.
@rrs_13
@rrs_13 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ceaseless_Watcher It is more relevant to compare the users proeficiency at their own style than to compare different arts. NO martial art will prove any worth in real life situations. All martial arts have their own set of base rules, that do not need to be present in other martial arts (and as such, cause incompatibilities clashing certain styles), and certainly not in real life situations. A judo practicioner will overcome a karate parcticioner in close quarters, but the latter will know this and never let that happen (which comes to a stalemate). and so on so on. Real life rarely has ideal situations like the ones practiced in martial arts, so rarely will you get alone with pure canonical martial arts.

yes and no. Yuanjia alledgedly fought some foireign price fighters including an Irish boxer called O'Brien, but if any of these fights actually took place is debated, since there's no documented proof of it and it could also be propaganda. The whole last tournament of this movie is definitely pure fantasy. YuanJia didn't die during a fight, but suffered from consumption for a long time and just succumbed to it at some point. His body was exhumed and they found traces of arsen in his body, so it's possible that he was poisoned, but arsen was also part of chinese medicine at the time, so we also don't know that for sure. As a biopic this movie is a disingenous failure, but it's still a great film despite of this imo. The core message of learning humility and respect, overcoming hate and toxic aspirations is transported very well. Yuanjia deciding to not kill his opponent for a pointless win and dying at peace moves me til this day.

@anonygent Жыл бұрын
@@jc-kj8yc It's kind of a trope to do, but also very satisfying, to loop back around and connect to the opening scene. In the case of Fearless, it was to hearken back to the scene at the beginning where the character's father spared the bald man's life. At that point, the character finally understood why his father had pulled his punch, and he smiled in understanding, even as he fell to the ground dying.
@jc-kj8yc
@jc-kj8yc Жыл бұрын
@@anonygent exactly, but it's not just a callback to the beginning. It's the culmination of Huo's entire arc. It's built up through the first act. His father pulls his punch and Huo doesn't understand it. Then we see him practicing that punch excessively without understanding the why behind it. He becomes very successful, but also cruel and condescending. Making clear that he never learned the core message behind his craft. Then he gets into a fight he's losing and executes the technique without hesitation, leading to him losing everything. In the second act he learns from his mistakes and has a change of heart and in the third act, when push comes to shove again, he shows that his journey of understanding is complete and pulls the punch. It's a very simple, but perfectly executed structure.
