In the two hundred million years since the crocodile first appeared on Earth, it has never ceased to fascinate and to frighten. For certain peoples in Mali and Chad, the reptile is still sacred. Alongside the Dogons in Mali and the Bideyet nomads in Chad, we are the privileged witness of their relationship with the crocodile, their proximity can sometimes be disturbing, but always fascinating!

@@kryptonite9804 Being a gambian I find this amazing and I have an idea where it might’ve been. The school I attended in Bakau has an area where people live with Komodo Dragons the size of Crocs and some even bigger. Still amazes me how some people can coexist peacefully with such deadly animals. As for the crocs I remember petting a few including an albino crocodile (held as something special in out country) and all this was back in 2005-2006.

Most of us don't give animals enough credit for their capabilities because we're blinded by our own selfishness. We kill them needlessly, encroach on their territory, abuse them and have driven an obscene number of them to extinction, yet in the grand scheme of things expect them to be docile in our presence. Humans are the most dangerous animals on this earth. So I admire and respect such as these who have shown us a great example of what human beings coexisting with animals in the wild looks like. I don't understand what the fascination is with would happen if 'x' animal goes hungry or starves. Why should it come to that in the first place when there's more than enough resources for both humans and animals?

Im not in disbelief of this. Some white guy is able to train crocodiles he finds in the wild. Crocodiles seem to be very intelligent. The ones they have in the village have learnt that they can be dependent and loyal to the People around them and get benefits while the people also treat the crocodiles with high regard. There is no fuckery behaviour on the part of the villagers towards the crocodiles as they are seen as sacred. Makes sense to me.

I’m all about living in harmony with wildlife! Love it! The only thing I’m on the fence about is feeding them? It just worries me a tad. For many reasons. If that man passes away I hope someone else will take his place and continue to feed them. There have been many known cases where ppl feed an animal it becomes dependent on that meal. Then when that ends they find other means. Coming to other people to expect food. That’s all I just hope others will continue. Great footage! ❤

Narrator “No one knows why they are revered and considered sacred”… meanwhile Egypt/the Nile valley is a walk away from Chad. We get it… Western media LOVES to sideline ancient Egyptian culture as some sort of civilization not belonging to Africa/built by Subsaharan Africans. This behavior is literally the same continuous belief system that was held by the ancient Egyptians/ Africans of the Nile valley. The ancient Egyptian god Sobek was actually found out to be a west African crocodile species (Crocodylus suchus) this is based on genetic data extracted from mummified crocs. The 18th dynasty mummies of Tutankhamen, Rameses III and family were put under genetic analysis and surprise surprise;- subsaharan Africans were found to be the closest remaining relatives of the pharaohs.
