Iatmul people of the Sepik River in Papua New Guinea have made crocodiles their totem and worshipped the sacred animal which they believe played a part in the creation of humans and the Earth.
Among approximately 15,000 members of the Iatmul are Charles and Norbert, who have their initiation ritual approaching. The two young men nervously walk to the house of spirits, and embark on their journey into adulthood in the clans of the Iatmul.

because alone in the jungle they are fucked. that's why even in developed countries, people who live in harsh environment, for example high mountains, are very close to each other and in big cities where everything is easy to access (like food, safety, good weather and so on) people don't need each other too much, they can live alone.

That is my home province, we are the Sepik people of Papua New Guinea. Our complex river systems and waterways are unique and spectacular. Most of our culture and practices are dying out due to religion and western influences. It saddens me to see foreigners allowed into our "hausman" the house of spirits, most of these things are sacred, shouldn't be photographed or filmed. The great Sepik river is also known as the "river of art". We are known for our art and carvings. I wish our Government can tighten up LAWS for outsiders to not exploit our sacred initiations, rituals and practices, it was until recently that people are now seeing what no one else saw except for initiated men, I appreciate SLICE for the documentary but those flutes shouldn't be shown. That is just WRONG. There are other content creators who created some similar documentaries that did not sit well with alot of us. Those villagers are vulnerable, don't use that to your advantage and publicize them. Have some respect for our culture. Otherwise, I applaud the effort to promote our beautiful rivers and our way of life. Oh btw, we were colonized by Germans so they brought soccer to us, our favorite sport. There's also a village in the Sepik River area called Marienberg, that itself will explain.
@Mirkkko

Thank you for this valuable perspective. I too thought that showing the flutes was inappropriate. And I wonder what the villagers got in return for showing their culture for us to see and for splice to profit off.

True religion done fucked us too all over Africa, but as for not showing I disagree because the reason the white man has managed to subjugate us as cultural people is because we never document anything this way atleast we are documenting something lest they claim it to be thier own

but my friend a culture kept in itself isn't destined to eventually die ? why you type yourself in English ,how did the English language made sure that it would not die, spread and also reach your part of the world ? by being shared ,no? maybe you should share your traditions with people who are truly keen to learn this is a way to preserve your culture. I am a Greek man in the other side of your world and learning about your culture made me so intrested and keen to help you preserve this treasure that you have.

@@nickruss177 The indigenous tribe should not share ritual and rites with world. The Whiteman man knows what they are doing now. They should not know every move. Because they came and colonized and tribe to wipe their history out. Just like the black African Americans wearing white folks last name and their rotten culture and still no pay or respect.

1 Chronicles 16:26 For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Psalms 96:5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Acts 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: Psalms 119:105 נ (NUN). Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
