Display feathers are highly evolved versions of a basic feather. They no longer have the standard structure of a central quill and a vane made of tiny interlocking barbs. They've evolved into fluffy plumes or stiff wires, some with hard ornaments or tabs. These radical changes, and the muscles that let the bird move them, serve no purpose other than to improve the male's chances during courtship. The Cornell Lab's Ed Scholes explains:

Dear Cornell Lab, A few days ago, I was reading a book, trying to disconnect from my phone a little bit. But in that book, 20000 leagues under the sea, the author started mentionning birds and how beautiful there were. So I couldn't resist and opened internet to find what the birds of pararise look like... and I was amazed! For the past 5 days, I've literally stopped reading my book to watch all your videos! I don't know exactly what is it that you do but thanks for the content. Really!

Thank you for putting together this captivating package of film and facts. It’s almost overwhelming to think of all the meiosis that had to occur along the way. I would like to leave tomorrow to see these fascinating creatures with my own eyes!

The birds-of-paradise are like humans that are still connected with their ancient tradition. Some tribes have extreme body modification, with long modified neck, modified skull, extreme piercing lip, extreme piercing ears, etc. that make look extraordinary than common people in modern cities.

Well, you may have noticed that I am a fan of this subject. Do you have any info on microraptor feathers or any other prehistoric types? Thanks

These birds had no predators for millions of years until man, that is. They had the freedom to evolve in the most spectacular manner. God didn't make them to please us. Folks, please. Evolution is real. I'd god created them then he made some silly errors. The female has chosen and is responsible for this amazing variety of birds that exist only here, nowhere else on earth. And they have been here for much longer than we can comprehend.

again.. “Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things God has made so that we are without excuse” (Rom 1.20)

In the name of God the Mirceful (( This is the creation of Allah . So show Me what those other than Him have created. Rather, the wrongdoers are in clear error )) [Luqman 31:11] The Noble Qur'an. Islam means peace.💖🌿 They are very beautiful and impressive birds. Loved them. 💖💖
