Eldio Gulisan, also called Imam, is a professional freediver who is also an esteemed member of the Sama people, a diverse ethnolinguistic group in the southern part of the country. His inspiring story goes beyond the medals, and it deserves to be shared with the world.
Want to go freediving with Erwan? We are in Samal Island in Davao, Philippines and we are ready to dive right into its deep blue waters. Joining us on this spontaneous trip is with one of our old pals, Sebastien Gilbert, who is also no stranger to freediving and is also an avid underwater videographer. Will Erwan get the hang of freediving, or will he quickly retreat to shore? Watch until the end to find out!

I hope Imam can train the newer generations of his tribe to get involved in the sports of freediving. I know many would want to see the potentials of their local traditions in the field of freediving, not just spearfishing. These are the natural deep divers that didn't have the opportunity to have modern training programs.

We are similar in the sense that it’s the people and their story that is most important ❤ Kudos to your team for finding these incredible Filipinos. This inspires me more to be a good underwater filmmaker or whatever im doing. Yeah diving and filming is tiring and hard. Most of my good shot are from accidental shot lol. I love the cinematography, editing, script and the story. Worth subscribing 😍

We Sama people esp the man in the southern part of Philippines has this ability. They say the badjao sama when they are small child they use to be thrown to water to learned how to swim at early childhood.Thats why most of them esp badjao living besides or on the water has this ability.
