** ABOUT TIME TEAM **
Time Team is a British archaeology series that originally broadcast on the UK's Channel 4 for 20 series, and countless specials. Over the years, the team excavated over 220 sites, from back gardens to Buckingham Palace. The show has now returned to KZfaq, thanks to the incredible support of thousands of worldwide fans on Patreon.
Series 21 (Season 21) of Time Team follows two incredible new digs, each released in extended 3-part episodes exclusively on the Time Team Official KZfaq channel. The first dig explores a mysterious Iron Age site in Cornwall; the second investigates a huge Roman villa on the estate of a Tudor castle in Oxfordshire.

It is Not the Same without Them. It is kind of sterile more like a "Regular Documentary", than the "Original Time Team". It is less "Personable"; Dryer; more "Industrial", and Less "Hands-On". Tony "MC-ing" the Series made it like You're more "involved" in each "Dig". Tony, Mick, and Phil's interaction with each other and the other people involved made IT FUN. This New Guy is too, much like a "Regular Documentary" Narrator, no "emotional engagement", I don't really like IT, he is just not "Time Teamy" enough, for Me. THe Original Production was tighter, with more of a real feeling of the fact that "They" were under a "Clock".

Prof Stewart Ainsworth was always an excited contributor, acutely observant, and very instinctual. He has one fast-acting, sharp brain. He has always been a show highlight for me along with the extremely talented, yet humble, Victor Ambrus. Whoever had the original idea of including a creative, educated artist as a sketcher on the show did the public a great service. I miss his contributions. Computer-generated models are very interesting, but Ambrus breathed actual life into each gorgeous image. Respect.

@@seanknecht4075 - Au contraire. I really like this current iteration; it is an improvement in many ways. The scientists are not acting like middle school goofballs nor spending any of their precious camera time hanging out in bars. This host is not acting like the entire enterprise hinges on him alone and he is not in over his head like Robinson usually was. It is about the fact-finding and the scientific deductions for me, which this version is doing royally. I still appreciate the experimental side bars, like the fresco creation. I've just discovered this channel and watched the full length of dig one and dig two in one day. I grew up with Time Team. Mick's crazy jumpers and John's equally crazy hair and then mind blowing ground images showing elaborate building layouts hidden from view by fields. Stewart walking miles of countryside with map in hand - usually with Henry trailing behind him - and having eyesight that seemingly saw just as much detail as the radar just from how the lumps and bumps in the landscape relate to each other. Corenza's vast historical knowledge, usually paired with Robin who seemed to be able to decipher the most illegible documents. Then the beautiful pieces of art from Viktor as he brought the broken down walls, post holes and bits of pottery to life. A true gem of a series and I'm so happy it is still going after nearly 30 years. I have so many wonderful and precious memories of this programme and the people involved.

I do think a lot of people were quite needlessly negative at the start. Continuing to say the absence of Tony hurts the whole effort, when Tony himself constantly argued the show wasn't about him, and shouldn't be, I think even he'd be less moved, and more irritated after a while. Collectively, we've all supported, and funded the continuation of British archaeology in some small form. You've got some old faces, and new faces, in the game, doing what they love, and sharing it. I think that, even with some faces missing, that's a worthwhile thing, and people should be more prepared to see the positivity in what's been done here.

Just so wrong for this kind of get dirty show. Whoever hired him should be fired. And Neil? Really?? The guy who never ever takes anyone's opinion or suggestions? I support TimeTeam as a Patron and have watched almost every episode, I love it! Downside, I am not enjoying the 'energy' that the 'whispering presenter' provides. He is lovely, and well informed, but for a reason I am unable to explain he 'sucks the energy' out of the experience of 'discovery'. I do not doubt his credentials, but with the 'soft voice' of explanation is really difficult to get 'excited' about 'what might be about to be found'. Top bloke, just not enough 'excitement'!

@sydmccreath4554 Please drop it. I am completely clear that it is the 'tone', and 'energy' of the presenter that bothers me - nothing else. You are implying a perspective that I do not hold. I am only expressing a perspective that in order to engage a community, you need to gain their attention, and sustain it. David Attenborough does 'whispering', and Tony Robinson does 'running around and being excited' - their style. I am simply remarking that the current lead presenter's 'energy', and 'excitement' seem out of place. My honest and 'unbiased' opinion. My 'social network' would be rather surprised at your 'interpretation' of my comment.

@sydmccreath4554 I agree that people on the internet seem to be whiny babies. It’s so much easier to be mean and spiteful in comments when you don’t have to look a person in the eye. IMO, that’s part of what is making the world a worse place. But the same right that you have to complain about “infantile moaners”, gives them the right to complain about whatever they are seeing. The trick is to ignore the bull**it and not let it affect you. The only person who got mad was you, and the only person who can fix that is you. I’ll be over here, in my corner of the internet complaining about something totally different, no doubt.

I fell in luv with TT the first episode. Along with the 'aging' of the personalities, the migration of TT's tech is fun to see as well. I've actually warmed a lot to Gus as a host since the first time I watched the new season of the show. He really is a good host, just a lot more calm and subtle in his enthusiasm and banter with the rest of the team than Tony was. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Tony as a host too. But if Gus started acting like Tony it would just seem wrong. That's not the type of personality Gus seems to have. Gus has carved his own niche as host of the show as he absolutely should have. In any case, if the original cast of the show (including Tony) had all still been here the new season would just have seemed like a rerun of the old seasons. If they could even have found the magic from back then again. The new episodes does have a different feel to them, but to me that's not necessarily a bad thing. Progression and innovation is needed in media or it will grow stale.Just look at all those tv-shows where the later seasons grow worse and worse. I'll certainly keep following to see where the show goes from here. Who knows, perhaps in time more people will begin to see the qualities of Gus as a host and be sad if he were to leave the show - as we all were when we found out Tony and Phil wouldn't be joining the team in the new season.

@@robroy6804 Well if that is your opinion then I guess you're entitled to it. I don't care about the guy's personal life and as this is a privately funded show I'm pretty sure colour doesn't come into the picture when choosing a host. Have you considered if perhaps they chose him because he has other qualities? Like, say, that he's a historian and a museum curator?

I'm really enjoying the more relaxed vibe of the new episodes - obviously I love Tony but I feel like the archeology gets to take centre stage much more now and Gus's narration is wonderfully soothing.
@kongrufus1
@kongrufus1 2 жыл бұрын
@@eevilauntie Indeed it does take centre stage. Tony gave the show a different dynamic back then but he would occasionally show very little understanding for how the archaeology field works. When it worked best (most of the time), Tony would keep the team on their toes. But once in a while he would demand more answers than what the archaeology and the team could give. As much as I really liked Tony, this would occasionally make me frustrated with him. It's very clear that Gus has a background in the field (or related fields at least) because he doesn't try to force an answer from the team that the archaeology can't bear like Tony sometimes would. In that sense I feel that Gus is no less enthusiastic than Tony was about the digs, his personality is just a lot more calm. And he has a clearer understanding of what can be deduced from the finds and what can't, so he respects it when there are no clear answers to give. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that Gus is a better host than Tony. It's just that they both have their strengths and their weaknesses, and they both bring something different to the table when it comes to hosting the show.

How the new tech has enlarged your ability to discover more in a shorter period of time. I remember when Tony used to exclaim over the digging of a FOURTH trench and you’ve got ten or more going! I rather like the calmer less “hyped” presentation. Seems more “scholarly”. A guest spot with the remaining members of the old TT would be interesting. What I would really like is if we’d get some sort of recap after that dig to know whether the site would continue to be studied, or if they just covered it over and planted more turnips!
