gotta love this guy. you obviously have to do the work and read beforehand (in this case, read fed 78) but the connections he makes and further emphasis on certain points really help solidify its message. nothing like crash course, and i have nothing against them, but quite frankly they are far too fast and chaotic to keep up with for me personally lol. thanks for your contribution in allowing me to further understand the complexity of our goverment, which im beginning to understand is that way for reasons beyond what i previously assumed (which could easily have led me to carry on the bias and misinformation my family unfortunately still believes)

The thing I hate most about Hamilton? He just kept writing, and never stopped, and now they ended up with 85 essays instead of 25. Much rather have 25 total in this class, most of them are all past number 25 that we have to learn anyway!!

I think that if the judicial branch must have a life term position in office then they should at least be democratically elected. Hamilton talks a lot about the purpose of the judicial branch and how imperative their independence is in order to not compromise their power but by allowing the president to choose the supreme Court leaders and not the people, I feel like not only is their power influenced and compromised but so are the rights of the people- which should always come first. Thank you for such a great video! It really helped a lot😁💕

yeah maybe but then the judiciary would be politicized which is a bad thing, it makes the court become more like a super legislature
@nyct0phile
@nyct0phile 3 жыл бұрын
@@palmermonsen9098 is it not already heavily politicized since presidents elect them? typically, half of america is going to hate their president, which means half of america is going to hate whoever they elect irregardless of who that person is/their political views are. and presidents dont typically base their nominees on vharacter, but loyalty to the president and their views, especially in the SC, in which case, should the president get in trouble for overstepping, the justices will generally like them and the president is less likely to face repurcussions. take ruth for example. i dont think she should have been replaced THAT quickly, with a president most republicans didnt even like :( no hate, just a thought lol. i think no matter what theres going to be something to complain about 😂
@palmermonsen9098
@palmermonsen9098 3 жыл бұрын
@@nyct0phile Yes you are 100% correct but I think that forcing SCOTUS judges to be elected makes the process even more political, it makes unqualified people more likely to end up with the job and it lowers the SCOTUS to a political level it was never meant to bet at. Even though it is certainly political now I don't think that further politicizing it will make things better
@nyct0phile
@nyct0phile 3 жыл бұрын
@@palmermonsen9098 you got me there haha. i dont think the government needs any more excuses for devision, and democratically electing them i believe would only further exacerbate the absolute chaos that is american political parties haha. i suppose we indirectly elect them in a way also, when electing the president. especially in the judicial branch, the focus should be upholding constitutional rights and interpreting where the framers might not have been able to foresee the kinds of issues we're presented with today. i agree that it would probably be more detrimental to have the judiciary become a democracy than what it stands to be right now.

The purpose of having the judiciary being independent and holding life terms is to be separate from any kind of political division that happens in the country. I'm bad with wording thus, but basically SCOTUS is an independent branch that rules with its judgement. It has life terms in order to be apart of any political say in government. It can best be classified as a neutral body of government. This idea is supported by having court cases come to the SCOTUS, rather than vice versa, as well as the need to rule on important issues based on the Constitution, which is what technically Governs the Government. The constitution tells the Government how to act towards the people, in terms of protecting the rights of the people from encroaching government. (Sorry for the long comment lol. Told you I'm bad at wording things.)

I don't understand the reason for presidential appointments if the justice has to be constituional. Like they can't be unjust, so why can't they be elected by us.

Since judges have become activists and in some ways have started legislating from the bench they should be impeached more often but of course congress can’t be trusted to uphold its duty so I believe judges should serve a given number of years and then be termed out. Same for congress

Could also argue that the Senate only confirms Justices who will let Congress do whatever they want and trample the Constitution so they're all in cahoots
@Lasnoe

@@CareyLaManna id argue the Senate became a useless body the moment the constitution was amended to have senators popularly elected rather than appointed by the state. Its amazing to me how the states would ratify an amendment that took away their representation in the federal government....how is that possible?!?!?
