Patriotic song was not so powerful and didn`t represent the power of russian state. But reality is also, that russian state had no power in the years after collapse of USSR, the whole structures of statehood were demolished. Because Russia was never a democracy and it was clear that everything will go wrong with decision to destroy a soviet system and replace it with a bad replica of western democracy. Now Russia is a stabilized totalitarian state again and soviet anthem goes really well with this direction.

This is not the Duma. State Duma is the lower house of Parliament. Here - Federation Council (upper house of parliament). But yes - State Duma also voted for new/old anthem. 379 yes, 51 against. Those you call democrats have occupied a marginal position since 1993, in Duma has always been dominated by Communist Party or Liberal Democrats (actually imperialists).

The Russian Assembly ceased to be a democratic body ever since Yeltsin deployed the tank in 1995 or so, imho.

Democracy is an illusion for fools, elected politicians are puppets of unelected elites and oligarchy and never make decisions against will of elites and for people. Especially in the West. At least in Russia people know Putin is really in charge and not a puppet, since his decision to invade Ukraine was definitely against will of elites who in 2022 lost everything in the West where they kept their money, business, properties and families

Does it preserve the Soviet tradition, or keep (some of) the people entrapped in it? The anthem should most ideally be Grechaninov’s Anthem of Free Russia, or even, indeed, The Patriotic Song.

@@losabias4723 not sure that you're in a position to be making those statements. like any average person from the west you're repeating what western media outlets have been telling you your whole life, or you may have heard a defector saying that the USSR was hell and that they hate communism, those people represent a very small percentage of public opinion and aren't trustworthy sources .plenty of the other republics suffered greatly after the fall of the USSR and still aren't as economically robust as they once were, a strong chunk of the public opinion in those republics also suggests that living standards were better under communism , but you wouldn't know that because western mainstream media has been telling you the opposite narrative your whole life.

My mother is an ethnic Russian from Ukraine, she emigrated her to Slovenia (back then, it was still Yugoslavia) in the late 1970's, we've visited modern Ukraine multiple times, and she says the place was better under the USSR. This myth that everyone in every ex-USSR country other than Russia loathes Russia is just that - a Western myth. Also, there's plenty of people in the West right now who loathe NATO and the EU.

The old ussr anthem was readopted as the anthem for Russia in the year 2000. The tune remained the same but lyrics changed.

Yes this was it, they voted about the anthem at Duma also (same day) everything changed on December 20, 2000.

I prefer Bozhe tzarya krani and Patriotic song than the USSR and modern federation anthems. Current anthem's music is good for a patriotic song. If they added lyrics into the 1990 - 2000 anthem it would be the Russian anthem until now.

И национальная мелодия - мелодия Глинки. Без слов. Отсутствие слов - это не изъян, а достоинство, "изюминка", особенность её, не баг, а фича ☝️😌
