On 25 November 1984, ITN interviewed Bob Geldof at Sarm West Studios in Notting Hill as he assembled his all-star cast of the biggest names in pop music to record the charity Christmas single, Do They Know It's Christmas? ITN's cameras also captured some wonderfully candid footage of Geldof teaching the song to his collaborators, and a large family photoshoot featuring... wait for it... Adam Clayton, Phil Collins, Steve Norman, Chris Cross, John Taylor, Paul Young, Tony Hadley, Glenn Gregory, Simon Le Bon, Simon Crowe, Marilyn, Keren, Martin Kemp, Jody Watley, Bono, Paul Weller, James Taylor, George Michael, Midge Ure, Martin Ware, John Keeble, Gary Kemp, Roger Taylor, Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey, Peter Briquette, Francis Rossi, Robert 'Kool' Bell, Dennis Thomas, Andy Taylor, Jon Moss, Sting, Rick Parfitt, Nick Rhodes, Johnny Fingers, and Geldof.

A trip down memory lane. This was a tiny spark of light during my dark very unhappy teenage years. And to think it was to help those worse off than myself too. He did some good things back then Geldoff did. Without this first move there would’ve been no comic relief or sport aid later on. Left a legacy for sure.

10:30 seeing Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet together, is the coolest thing. The 80s was an incredible decade.

Ohhh!!! I’d love more of this!!! I watched the Making of Band-Aid probably hundreds of times as a teen!! This BTS footage is always so much fun and gives a glimpse of how real these “stars” were! Especially funny hearing John and Simon being scolded 😅😅 Please share of you have any more of this footage!! Many thanks!! ❤

Fascinating to hear Geldof say that he hoped to raise about £1m (actual was £8m) and that he didn't think a fundraising concert was possible.
