Thanks Bec, learning intentions and success criteria are important. The effect size of Hattie is very interesting and something to keep in mind when planning and teaching.

Congratulations on more subscribers 👍🏼👍🏼 We have been talking about effective feedback and formative assessment in our staff room A LOT this week!! I love giving immediate, continued and specific feedback to my students. It is so effective and helps inform my planning for future lessons. The kids love it too!

Life in Kafoople Land thanks! Its so important for your secondary kids too as they grow and build deep, meaningful relationships its such a great model for them to know how to interact and talk with each other in a positive way ❤️

I still think the children should have a checklist of spelling and punctuation everyday. They should self assess each piece of work based on a rubric, check with a buddy, then check with the teacher.

This was fabulously helpful! I am struggling to implement learning intentions at the moment. I wonder How do you keep a record of their focus or learning intention for an activity when you may look back at their work for reports? For instance a rubric would be with the work.

Im very glad you found the video helpful 😀 I usually record learning intentions in my teaching program. Sometimes they dont always go in there though. Sometimes I will establish a learning intention in the moment if it suits and I might forget to go back to my program and add it in - but thats teacherlife hehe. Reports are still curriulum based so the learning intention isn't really a factor in that process its more about outcomes. Thanks so much for watching ❤️

I've been thinking a lot lately about the most effective way to get opportunities for those 1:1 feedback/conferences with students for writing, in a classroom environment. For reading I do small group Guided a reading and 1:1 reading for each student, each week. But I'm having difficulty trying to do the same with writing.

Tamara Hayes writing is definitely harder. When I can work in groups for writing the feedback opportunities are greater but that 1:1 is always harder I agree

Do you communicate the criteria verbally or write them somewhere?. I have little space in my room and am struggling to display them for the lesson/task for different KLA's. Currently I am sticking laminated A3 sheets on a wall and wipe them off when completed. Any Advice?

Very similar to yours. I had laminated sheets that said 'Learning Intention' and 'success criteria' and would write on it with whiteboard marker at the end of the modelling portion of the lesson. I found that system easy and flexible. I do say it verbally as I write it, then get the kids to read them out loud to me. 😀

We think so much alike! ^^ "Visible learning for teachers" is the book I recommend in my #IteachToo video. I think I will do a small "book" with all the success criteria that I use and the mastery level related to them. Each group will a one on its table so that they can refer to it anytime. By giving up on grades, I have to focuse more on feedback. I just hope I'll be able to do it properly for each and every one of my 220 students!
