These things are fully automatic. They dont have brains. They aren't self aware. Its just.. Moving darkness. Its a fully functional being that has no idea what its doing. How cool is that?

@Flippy _ How do you measure self-awareness? Does such a thing even exist? To be honest, it seems little more than a buzz-word. Jellyfish have an entirely different nervous systems from us - they have a nerve net of neurons (these are not evenly dispresed in the jellyfish, but rather have some degree of neuronal condensation). So if you count plants as being self-aware, I don't see a reason to suggest jellyfish have less.

Ok so I have a about why jellyfish are my favorite animal story so when I was younger there were a lot of jellyfish I think were moon jellyfish washed up (sadly dead) on shore so I thought they look very cool so I picked some up and my mom was like what are you doing I’m like look at the jellyfish all my cousins gathered around me they were scared it was going to sting me but I said no it won’t because it doesn’t have tentacles cause they fell off and plus I am holding the side were they didn’t have tentacles I tried to convince them to pick it one up safely but they didnt I put them in the water and they floated away and that’s what started my obsession with jellyfish

I am by no means any expert in jellyfish but I have kept quite a few animals for a while and I was wondering whether square tanks are safe? I thought that because they can't survive in still water they needed a rounded out habitat to keep the water flow at it's best.
@SunsetMarineLabs7 жыл бұрын
You are correct that the water does need to have a specific flow or current in order to keep jellyfish happy; however, this can be achieved in what's called a "modified tumbler box" style jellyfish tank. The Eon Jellyfish Systems are modified tumbler box style jellyfish tanks. The Eon systems have 2 built-in spray bars that create a perfect flow for the jellies. We use these same tanks to breed our moon jellyfish from 1/2" diameter and up! They are perfect for jellies. You can see from our videos how easily the jellies move throughout the tank, feed appropriately and "bell", or swim naturally.

My local fish shop gave me brine shrimp (the size of seamonkeys) to feed my small jellies. Are these shrimp too big? And is it possible to overfeed the jellies or do they stop eating once full? Thank!
@SunsetMarineLabs3 жыл бұрын
Adult brine shrimp are typically too big for juvenile jellies, as well as the fact that adult brine shrimp do not have all the fatty acids that juvenile jellies need to grow properly. The small jellies will try to eat them and that is ok, but try and get some enriched baby brine shrimp instead. To answer your second question, jellyfish are passive eaters and love to eat! There does become a point; however, when all of their tentacles and stomachs and stinging cells become saturated with food and they can no longer hold on to any more. So, in that sense, they do stop eating. Please note: You do not want to compromise the health of your jellyfish by degrading your water quality and that is what will happen when you overfeed.
@anthonynavarro1013 жыл бұрын
@@SunsetMarineLabs I picked up some baby brines. Thanks! I check the water daily and it’s perfect, especially the ph. I added a air bubbler, but away from the main tank so bubbles never come near the jellies. I also have a poly filter sponge. They seem to be thriving, today is exactly 1 week of having them. Bells look to be in good shape.

Why do you have to be sure not to make any bubbles when pouring in the food?
@thunderfox5311 жыл бұрын
Bubbles could upswt their buoyancy and if a bubble ruptures it could cause harm to the jellyfish. Remember, they are 95% water and 5% organic matter. Thank you for pressing interest in jellyfish.

OK so i'm setting up my 120 gallon tank... i'm wanting a bunch of jellies but have 1 question. Do I need a water chiller????? I keep my house at 72* so I'm guessing the water would be around 69*ish?? Do I still need it?
@SunsetMarineLabs8 жыл бұрын
+bjorn joseph Moon jellyfish can withstand temperatures from 60-80*F. So, if you keep your house maintains a room temperature of 72*F, then you will not need a chiller. However, if your house experiences higher temperatures in the summer, then you might want to consider a chiller to keep the jellies cool when that time comes.
@thunderfox5311 жыл бұрын
Blubber jellyfish can be in corner less square tanks and upside down jellyfish can be in a regular tank. However, you must know the salinity level and temperature for your jellyfish, also you must feed them live young brine shrimp. You can veiw my jellyfish if you want, just type in "My pet maroon blubber jellyfish" remember though, my jellyfish died due from lack of live brine shrimp :'(

Why's that? Are you a vegan or? Arent you mistaking something? They're not like other animals like cats, dogs, cows...etc because they cant feel emotion (like plants). Well, not quite because they're very happy as long as they get nutrition and can move which is why most jellyfish tanks have feature that allows these beautiful beings to move indefinitely. To them, it isnt a prison, or captivity but rather, a paradise.

Will overfeeding harm them?
@SunsetMarineLabs8 жыл бұрын
+Betta Fish Overfeeding will impact your water quality more than harm the jellyfish directly. Jellyfish are passive feeders and if there is food in the water, they love it. They just can't tolerate the decrease in water quality that overfeeding can create. So, it all depends on what type of jellyfish tank and life support system you have in place to deal with the additional food in the system. Which jellyfish tank do you have? What type of filtration does it have?

@SunsetMarineLabs7 жыл бұрын
It is a special tank for jellyfish called a "modified tumbler box", or Eon Jellyfish System. You can see that there is an internal current inside the tank making the water rotate in a circle. This is necessary to keep jellyfish suspended in the water as it does in traditional plankton kreisel tanks. This is a design that has been used throughout the jellyfish world since the mid-1990's. We also use these tanks to breed and grow up our jellyfish. It's an awesome tank! And, gives you 3-sided viewing! It's the best!
