the cyan magenta yellow camp is for digital art!! im not sure but i dont think you can use those paints the same way you can use those colours on a computer, cause like.. idk but theres sth w the fact that computers have light in them and in the colours and if u mix cyan magenta and yellow it turns white but if u do that irl i think itll just turn brown like the red blue yellow camp does! but still u should try it out cause im not sure and itd be interesting

I went through the whole color conundrum a couple of years ago when I first started learning to paint. Like most people, I thought the grade school rules for color theory still applied (ie:yellow and blue make green etc.). Unfortunately, as you learned in the video, it's a tad more complicated than that. You saw firsthand that you can't get pink using just any red paint. You were using a warm red which will only give you a coral or salmon pink. You needed a cool toned red. Try Basic's Quinacridone Magenta with white instead. Now if want to be able to mix virtually every color in the spectrum, you'll need a warm tone version and cool tone version of all three primaries for a total 6 colors. In Basics brand, you could try out these: Cadmium Red Light Hue, Quinacridone Magenta, Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue, Hansa Yellow Light, Phthlo Blue Green Shade & Ultramarine Blue. BTW, you can get blacks by mixing Burnt Sienna with Ultramarine Blue and MN by browns by mixing red and green together. Happy painting!!

Alizarin crimson is the red you want to make the bright pinks. Mix with white. And, you should get a warm grey and a cool grey and one of the off whites that basics acrylics offers. Then do a painting contrasting colors you choose with the greys in the areas you want things to recede and stand out. Cuz you do contrast really well with your drawings and values of grey. So, you too can do it with color.

Hey Peter, the best advice I ever got regarding colours is that if something is too much of a colour you can add the opposite colour on the colour wheel to tone it down. For instance if your green is too much of a lime green and you wanted a duller darker green you can add in a little red and it will tone it down to a less obnoxious green. It'll help you correct colours. I know you're not so much a precision painter and that's okay but I hope this advice helps a little with colours. It's kinda like how you said you can't add white to a colour to make it brighter. You also can't just add black to make it dark or to make a lime green a little less lime. Again, hope this helps a little.

The best primary colours to mix is cyan, magenta and citrus yellow. The more you mix with colours, the darker it gets. After you mixed the primary colours, you get the secundary colours, they're already darker than the primary. White and black helps to either lighten, darken the colour or turn don the hue

Couple of years ago I decided to get rid of old clothes. Luckily I reached into every pants' pockets and was stunned when my fingers felt that crumbly piece of paper in a pair of trousers I hadn't worn for over a year or so. So I grabbed that piece of paper-money and pulled out 50 (!!!) euros... Then I wondered..How can ypu forget about 50 bucks in your pocket? ...and what would have happened to them if I had thrown them away? Also...have I maybe got rid of a lot of money just because I forgot about me putting it somewhere? You, talking about that in the beginning of this video, made me check all my pants and pockets and bags...no money this time :D Oh and by the way, keep doing what you do. It is a joy to watch people do what they really LOVE to do. And if they, or int his case you, can make a living off of it, it's just awesome I think :) Have a nice day, *whispers* goodbye :P

One important thing to note about acrylic paint, is that it always dries darker than when you apply it. You should have been able to make a nice pink with white and red. It depends on the type of red you use too... though. oh yeah, you talked about that too.... Um... also your pink was probably mixing with the other not quite dry paint colours already on the canvas.... so it was probably affecting the colour, too. Cool painting. =)

I suggest you get the *subtractive* primary colors, it's pretty hard not to get awesome colors with those those are cyan magenta and yellow. I love painting with those and just mixing up paints without thinking about what color I want to get until I find a really interesting shade and go "ohh that looks good I'm going to use that" it's a bit intimidating at first to not know the colors your painting will end up with but once you get used to it, it's way more fun than just saying "I'm going to make a purple now"

i highly reccomend cyan magenta paints in tandem of red blue and yellow. theres a special yellow called "process yellow" that goes with cyan and magenta so pick that up. Also pallete knives while excellent art tools to glob on pain are even better at mixing than painbrushes and its reccomended to use that instead of paintbrushes to mix acrylic paint as overloading them w/ paint will definitely mess up your brushes. the only reason why bob ross mixes painst w/ a brush is bc he uses oil paints and oil doesn't mess up your brushes like acrylic or plastic does.

It all boils down to pigment per binding agent. You seem to be buying paints with less pigment and more binding agent. You'll need to buy the secondary colors- orange, green (although you seem to have that one down), purple, and further turquoise, peach, lavender already pre-mixed.

April Palmer If you have cyan, all you need to do it make it a tiny shade more green. Don't see why that'd be impossible. And coral orange is basically a pink with yellow in it. No, you can mix those colours. No problems. Maybe not the easiest to make perfect if you're not used to mixing colours. But doable, yes. Soo... why are you debating it? :) The colours you told him about would be preferable to what he uses. But I'm just saying that the colours of a printer is all you need.

Adding a little primary color or complimentary color will change the pink hue. I think it needs to be a more purple toned red to be bright pink. Found a good example video to explain: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oq2Chc1pvNTDZas.html

The brightest, most saturated paint you will ever use comes right out of the tube. Once you start mixing the colors they start to loose saturation. I had to use BASIC brand paints for years and this issue the biggest thorn in my side. It seems almost like a exponential drop off of saturation with BASIC paints. I ended up having to get about 15-20 different base colors in order to be happy with the end result.

The color tone already on the canvas can effect the color you put down. Put really you should be able to pick a red, a blue, and a yellow that you like and mix and play with those and white(& black ... real artist never use black, but I DO!). Anyway, "bright" may be a hint of yellow added to your red and white to get a pink your looking for. Cool colors, tend to have more blue, or a touch of black. Hot colors, tend to be a touch of red, yellow and/ or white. I find it fun to see how many different colors you can create yourself with those basic colors. If you really like an already mixed color, go for it. I would play with it also to see how you can change that color around. Your art, is your art. There really is no right or wrong, but there are economical and adventurous ways to be successful with a minimum. You may have ink that you could mix with your paints as well. I love the flow of a glob of paint on a canvas, sometimes using your fingers instead of brushes is another whole experience.....but effectively messy!

So when I paint I always use 2 of each primary colour, a warm and a cold,,, so go make green you use cold blue and cold yellow, to make purple it's cold red and warm blue and go make orange it's warm yellow and warm red ?? If that makes sense ??? And then to dull colours down use opposite complementary colours rather than black so like red-geeen yellow- purple and blue- orange !! It gives some rly nice earthy browny nice colours ?? U probs know all this already but idk I like colour theory so hope this helps :)
