Feline Ringworm is NOT as Contagious as You Think

Well, I'm going to help rid you of these common misconceptions about how ringworm spreads. I will also explain how to make you cat with ringworm STOP being contagious after 1 week.

Same here 😩 I'm going nuts. I rescued a kitten and it's never ending and he's quarantined. And on itrafungol. We are on last week. I'm still going crazy using rescue spray! And doing laundry everyday, 3x showers, and washing my dog as well everyday with fungal shampoo so she doesn't get it! Im washing walls and all the things and vaccum everyday!!!

It's very contagious. My wild kitten we found in the garage passed it onto my entire family. But it only lasted a few weeks, and everybody's fine now, including wild Todd!

@MrAkon12323 very good question. 👍 In my unprofessional opinion, we kept slightly cleaner then usual. Change the sheets on our beds more often, I put the creams on everybody's ringworm spots once every other day maybe..... when all is said and done, I'm not sure what helped.... but if I had to take a guess, it was when the environment dried up... after a wet rain season in California.

@madellynpineda5020 use anything you can find at CVS.... you can use anything for jock itch or foot fungus or even yeast infections. You'll see it clear up within four or five days. And then if it doesn't just go get a different type. But I've used foot fungus cream and ringworm cream both from CVS. The vet gave us Lotrimin.....Dandruff type shampoos and things like that..... Head and Shoulders.....

My cats got ringworm after went for a grooming (vet suggestion due to my cat got ear mite and dandruff however not that severe) after the grooming my cat was infected with ringworm, took my cat to a different vet, got a very good explanation and treatment. Not that scared but still freaking out especially my mom. So thank you so much for the video. It really helps me a lot.

This is interesting! We are a rescue and we get ringworm all the time! I have noticed our older healthier cats don't get it even when we have very bad ringworm in newer intakes. It's always the smaller more sickly ones that get it and I have noticed it often stunts the growth too which lines up with the previous health issues.

My foster kitten has ringworm. I didn't isolate him, so my husband and I got bad ringworm infections. Like, the kitten slept with us and spent 10 hours a day in my lap. I used lime sulfur dip and his ringworm is almost completely gone. Gonna treat him that way again today. Be careful with this dip!! They CANNOT drink it. Don't let them lick themselves before the dip dries on their skin either. I hold the kitten in a towel and pet their head while they dry I have since started keeping him in his cage and letting him out for 30 min increments every few hours. The pound keeps saying that ringworm only takes 2 weeks to heal with athlete's foot cream. I am angry, because they didn't tell me he had a condition contagious to humans so I wasn't diligent in washing ny hands. It has been a month using the athlete's foot cream and it barely healed. I have only used the dip last once and he has almost completely healed.

I've had many ringworm kittens now. It is not that scary. I did read stuff on it when I first started and it was scary that I thought what the hell am I doing? But just relax, this video is great.

I have also cared for over 100 foster kittens with ringworm in my house over the last 12 years. I only caught it myself once. My own 3 cats only got 1 or 2 spots of ringworm once. I do isolate the ringworm kittens in one room while their ringworm is active but always worried I was moving it through my house on my shoes or clothes but given the lack of transmission to myself and my own cats in that time it must be less contagious than I once thought. I do thoroughly clean the floors, surfaces including couches and bedding with products that are antifungal though.

I am working at an animal shelter and sometimes our rescued kitten got ringworm. do you have any experience in using UV Light therapy method to get rid of the ringworm? we really want to use chemicals as little as possible. would be awesome to hear from you. greetings and much love from germany . My strictly indoor cat contracted ringworm and I didn't even notice until I saw a bald spot on her face. Now I have a lovely spot on my tummy where she constantly loves to sit. I feel so much better cuz I was ready to exile her to a large dog crate, but as long as I keep cleaning regularly, keep up the treatments..we should be ok. I use Lysol regularly. Thanks for alleviating some anxiety. It's gross, but treatable.

I have been curing my cat that has ringworm for mor than 2 months at first i was so scared that me and my family will get ringworm and i used to leave my cat alone at a room for days ofc i used to feed her daily and i used to take care of her but then I noticed she got so sad and emotional and depressed! At that time i said like I don’t care anymore she’ll be staying with us even if we get ringworm, it has been 2 months and I haven’t got any signs of ringworm or anything! nor my family and she sleeps and eats with us 24/7 ! So its really not that deep

What is considered a critical amount of spores? Background: my mom’s kittens have ringworm and in second off week of oral meds, one more week to go then they are culturing. She cleans/vacuums every day. I was just there, sat on the floor and played with them. Washed my hands, used a lint roller on my clothes before leaving. Changed my clothes when I got home, showered. My 8 month old kitten rubbed against my clothes before I could get them into the wash. I wiped her down with a bath wipe. She had bad ringworm when she got to the shelter at 2 weeks old. Should I be doing anything else?

Thanks for your video! My kitten has been on oral treatment for a week. I know you mentioned contagiousness would stop after one week if doing the baths but does it apply to oral medication as well? I’m quarantining him but it’s killing him to be so lonely and away from me for extended time during the day and no socialization from my other two cats.

Hello and thank you for the information here. I live in Puerto Rico and moved to a small apt in a area used for dumping dogs and cats. In the last 5 days i have found 2 kittens that were discarded. One i m bottle feeding (looks to be a week old and the 2nd is weaned). The 2nd kitten has what appears to be a very bad case of ringworm. I have him isolated because it is bad. I have a fixed income and cannot afford vet now. My question is, WHAT CAN I USR TO BRGIN TREATING THE LITTLE GUY? Over the counter or some topical dip i can get at a pharmacy would allow me to begin treating him. I have issues with clear communication so please forgive the long comment😊

Absolutely amazing video. Thank you! A few weeks ago, I noticed I had ringworm on my arms and my face. They were small spots, not large. My kids started getting spots as well. My daughter, who has skin issues, has the most spots and I actually thought it was due to the issues she has had since birth. We suspected the kitten we found just prior to our trip. It has been frustrating, but when we got home, we discovered that the source is more than likely two of our older cats; one of which has spots. You are absolutely correct when you say Google and other search engines make you feel you will never get rid of it. Oh, and we also determined that everywhere we scratched was a mosquito bite which turned into ringworm. Yes, contagious when you have broken skin...definitely! Now I have hope that I can take care of this and win the war! Thanks a million. I wonder if you could help me out with another question. One of our cats has been defecating on items in our shop. Do these items carry the fungus? Also, if we were to keep the cats in cages until it clears up, is it okay for them to share a cage?

@@alysonrobbins4708 We used sulfur lime for a few weeks. They hated me. It cleared up, but I quit worrying about the items that could possibly have spores. I haven't seen any more ringworm.

@@alysonrobbins4708 Oh, I understand completely. If you get it on you, I highly recommend using antifungal or Phytozine and cover with a bandaid.

My kitten that I just adopted started showing signs after 2 days. They had kittens there that had it and I'm assuming my kitten go it from them. I have ringworm on my arm , two spots. My husband has it on his chest and arm. I have been going nuts and treating my kitten like he has a deadly virus! Read stuff online has me scared to death. I have been covering my body and washing my hands constantly. I just started treating him with an oral medication that I have to give him (7 days on and 7 days off for a month) Is he still contagious while on the medication? I also have a cat tree for him and I'm not sure how to clean that.. Is Lysol enough? or safe to use? The vet also gave me a shampoo for him. I tried giving him a bath and boy was that a nightmare! Im going to attempt to just use a wash cloth and wash his fur that way. Please, any advice? It's been 3 days hes been on this medication and ive been using Douxo that I got from amazon on the spots that i can see. The vet cost me 450 dollars.. ugh and they have me scared to death telling me to clean my house with bleach.

Mannn, I’m so stressed and my cats don’t have ringworm…. Yet. My sister is out of country and encounter a puppy with ringworm. She pick it up bc it was in the middle of the road. She’s comes back in a week. I really hope she didn’t get ringworm. We have four cats who are not the most patient cats so the treatment will be stressful. I don’t know what to do😢

Does anyone give their indoor cat ringworm? I caught ringworm about 3 weeks ago, treated it with Lamisil. Today I just noticed my cat has a small spot on her ear, and my husband has a few spots on his arms. While my ringworm spots are all healed up, no more itchiness and their ordeal just begin . Is it possible that I gave my pet ringworm?

Absolutely. I don't separate a litter, even if not all show symptoms. The other are already exposed and should be treated with lime sulfur dip to prevent them from getting it.

I’m fostering a litter of 5 with ringworm and they absolutely gave it to me and my kids. It’s a nightmare. It is contagious. Please don’t spread false information.

I adopted a kitten with ringworm no one in my household got it even my other cat when both my cats slept together ate and drank from each other's bowls and used each others litter boxes. I didn't even know what ringworm was I thought the kitten just had a rash so I didn't seek out the vet until I felt their skin issues where out of hand.

Video is not from a vet, just sources. My vet said ringworm is very contagious to immunocompromised and children. If you're an adult with no skin conditions, it'll be very hard for you to get it. Please be safe.

Well, it's manageable. You probably need to isolate the kittens and use gloves when handling them until cured. Also remember, even if new spots pop up, they could be from exposure 10-14 days prior.

Kittens and children are the most susceptible to it! She’s not saying it isn’t contagious, just more easily spread to some things than others

Hi I rescued a 3 month old kitten. He was starving. A cow cat. His neck is got a patch and the hair fell out . His hair is coming out a little bit much, I think. But I’m pretty broke. I’m taking care of him. What can I put on him to treat? I’m getting worried cause he’s been here a week. Just realize it’s probably ring worm. I’m hoping me and other cats are not affected. Shitt he’s been on bed totally. Thanks for advice

I have a video that can help you determine if it is ringworm, but it is not designed to be veterinary advice. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8mHnrxk3taypH0.html ) Ringworm is not something that you see in healthy cats and frequently occurs with other illnesses. I advise you to look in your area for low cost vet options and possibly crowdfunding to pay for a vet visit.

Im treating a kitten with ringworms since 4x weeks and going mental cleaning and disinfecting and washing all bedding where the kitten is living every single day 😣 topical cream twice daily, medicated bath twice weekly… i have 4x dogs and another cat but they are not this much work 😓 - thank you for this… i hope i get a negative result at the vet on monday and another one in two weeks time 🫠
