I hope you're right. I was listening to Roger Gracie talk about how he doesn't understand why guys nowadays abandon the closed guard for these new guards. What he said made a lot of sense.

You won't see that. He's far too deep into his competition career and honestly he's just not physically fit enough to compete at the top level. His advantage was superior technique in a game that people didn't know. Now that people understand his game more, he's not able to keep up physically and the high level matches you see him win are with narrow margins. The only game he has now is stall from bottom and win with sweeps.

Its not supposed to mimic a real fight. Its jiu jitsu. If you want to see guys use techniques which are more indicative of a real fight then watch mma. In all combat sports there will be things that do not represent a real fight, because it is not a real fight, it is a sport. Should the ref not separate boxers in the clinch because it doesn't represent a real fight, no thats silly. Its the same with some guard techniques in jiu jitsu.
