They would take the fact that she's impulsive, the fact that she doesn't remember emotional events or anything tied to a strong emotion, they would also look at the fact that she is antisocial, they would look at the fact that she prefers others to control her life; which is what she meant by "I feel better when I'm locked up" that's because she doesn't have to make any decisions or be responsible because somebody else is doing it for her. I would say that speaks to the probability that she has a narcissistic mother(person she tends to have issues with) that isolated her from others and controlled every single thing about her life and then when she became of age, she lost her damn mind in a sense and started acting impulsively because she was free and wanted to experience shit, and with a childhood the way she had it there was no way she could make smart choices out of impulsive ones. Instead of actually trying to come up with a treatment plan that might actually help her and reintegrate her into society, they would just going to treat her with a bunch of medications and turn what could possibly be something curable into a lifelong condition. Just like they did in that time. The field (psychology) itself concretes it into a mental illness, instead of a treatable condition.

When this part was filmed she had married and had two boys, big house on 180 acres, 11 miles outside of town. She said it was peaceful, and her husband knows about mental illness because of his mother. He works hard and makes good money and her life has changed, and she is much happier now, and he understands her up's and downtime and takes care of her, and she likes that, to be taken care of. Good for her, she finds her self making better choices now… Nice.

I am a therapist and was trained to do an interview almost exactly like that. I knew what question should be asked as he was asking them. He did a great job, very fluid. This is only a very short portion of an interview. He didn't cover the sexual history, any interests or resilience, and specific symptoms when not under the influence of substances, but this didn't appear to be the whole interview. Very interesting.

She has trouble describing her feelings. ITs why the therapist keeps asking how she feels. Antisocial personality disorder and cluster b personalities are not in touch with their feelings they are not able to describe them or empathise with others. She can articulate feelings of sorry or disappointment but only when it relates to herself and not others. She is pretty flat lined in her responses and remains factual. she doesnt emote at all except for the odd smirk. You could interpret those as dupers delight. She admires her father and it was interesting how the psychiatrist picked on this and didnt let it go. If she had admitted her father was bad, then she would have to admit she was too. But she couldnt do that as she likes being just like him. I have CPTSD and disassociative disorder, trust me it doesnt look like this

@Michael Scofield might be, the current research supports the idea that narcissist personalities develop from trauma and neglect in childhood, the title of the movie suggests that she is diagnosed with bpd, which holds many of the same traits as narcissistic personality disorder and from listening to her speak about her mothers behavior it is possible that she is narsasistic as an adult because she was raised by a mother with those tendencies and a father who was rarely present. I dont doubt that this woman has some kind of npd, but i don't know if she would have wound up in the hospital with a more stable nurturing upbringing

Well if your mother was Anti Social you would normalize her abandonment at a young age. You might have never loved someone no matter what and vice versa. You'd be surprised how many people with ASPD (antisocial personality disorder) as well as NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) are out there who do want to "fix" themselves. Self awareness comes in layers.

Loving or not, I can imagine one of this woman's kids sitting there 20 years later, complaining about her. Being the status of "child" does not mean you cannot also be gaslighting, misinterpreting, tormenting, or lacking in empathy. I never draw conclusions until I hear from more sides. I say this because of a sudden feeling of compassion and love for my own parents as I thought about their lives in a more whole way.

uh antisocial doesnt mean shes a bad person or anything. its just the inabbility to maintain relationships that she spends the whole video talking about. being diagnosed is also not a bad thing. and yea, crap upbringing often leads to personality disorders. whodathunk

Having one or two friends is entirely normal, actually. Contrary to what our culture dictates (assuming you're North American) it is NOT normal for people to have many dozens upon dozens of "very close friends." That's just pure bullshit. 1 or 2 is more realistic, and everyone else is an acquaintance.

People who never challenge you are not friends, but validators of your disorder.

@@sl5311 No. I don't think so. YOu have to remember this was the 60s and to be a Lesbian in those days was totally taboo. She probably had something like Bi-Polar etc as well which would explain her ups and downs and why she so many miscarriages and children etc and the drug taking etc and the impulsivity. The strict religious times as well would have been against her. Having her hair short in those days would have also been a big no no. Ehh. Just something I gleaned from the interview.
