Many of these vocalists are clearly classically trained singers. Sometimes this is less apparent on the studio version than in the live performance but they all translate well from studio to stage. Arguably better live.

Most of them use both autotune and melodyne in records. But you know... This is like guitar effects. If you bad - even the best effects don't turn you to Steve Vai. More like Vteve Sai... Same with autotune or melodyne - if you can't sing... You still can't. Recording vocals is super hard, so autotune and other tools save money and time.

Possibly to reduce vocal fatigue/strain, or simply to ensure she could hit those higher notes with less difficulty.

@@greyalice She first came on stage when I saw her in a special way for me personally, too. It was during a tour where a supporting band who performed prior to them (Veridia) performed a song "I'll never be ready". The singer told a backstory about the song how she wrote it for her dying father, and I lost mine too, but long time ago, but still the wave of grief came back at that time. I had tears in my eyes, and then she introduced Amy to the stage. They hugged and then she proceeded to play the piano to accompany the song.

I have been seeing Amy since 2003, even seeing her at Le Zénith while I was in college where their live album Anywhere but Home was recorded which was one of the best experiences of my life. The Synthesis tour was striking too. One of the most underrated aspects of Amy Lee is her killer stage presence. She is always gracious and courteous to bands she tours with (even if she is more popular than the headliner) and often brings opening bands' lead singers back out like Papa Roach to duet with her on songs like Bring Me to Life or sings Freak on a Leash with Korn at the end of the concert which is really neat. She is incredibly dynamic and versatile. Even if Amy is having a hard time vocally like at the end of a long stretch of a tour (she has a huge international fan base and a comparably large American one compared to others on this list and she is HUMAN after all and has hard days like ALL OF US) she always keeps her mic ON unabashedly and she keeps the fist-pumping energy high on songs like Going Under and Tourniquet or starts vulnerable on the piano and then brings in explosive guitars on songs like Call Me When You're Sober or Lithium, but also gets ALL the phones waving in the air while she seranades listeners on songs like My Immortal, Far from Heaven, or if you are lucky to see it live, songs like Hello. No one can go from headbanging to piano playing like Amy can. She can drastically adapt to circumstances and tours like when her gear got destroyed and she played a fully acoustic show in Russia, just her and the piano - I didn't see it in person but it was sublime! Her interpretational skills of songs are AMAZING too like her live cover of Korn's Thoughtless. Evanescence is such an amazing post-genre band that only Evanescence could tour with Muse, WagakkiBand, Seether, Korn, Halestorm, WT, AND Lindsey Stirling seamlessly. Evanescence has the open door (pun intended) for so many people into rock and metal that otherwise never would have listened to those genres. They certainly were for me.

Literally each and every one of them were better Live. Either singing wise or passion wise. Simone,Amy and Floor were absolute beasts and every other girl in general gave a real performance, full of voice and passion. The only thing someone can say,is that many Studio version of the songs "Echoed" better to the ear,but that isn't the vocalist, but the studio. For example,Amy gave a real performance but her mic was lower than the band.

Try 'Kamelot - Liar Liar' for example. If you like switching between growling and singing, Helle from Ignea also does this mid-singing, like in 'Alga'. By the way: Shes from Ukraine, just like Tatiana, coincidence? xD

Also worth mentioning, good work in using outdoor stage festival shows for the comparisons, this is the type of performance with the most variables, the least control and "ideal" set-ups for the sound folks, so a comparable performance in such circumstances is indicative of first class talent (singer and sound techs both).

It’s because her screams are heavily edited to sound the way they do and don’t sound the same as the recordings live. No don’t take this as I’m saying she isn’t a good vocalist and/or can’t scream well, but the list is trying to show people who sound identical to recording despite being live and she doesn’t quite hit the bare there unfortunately. I also think it’s possible they didn’t throw her on here cuz she’s from a Metalcore band or Djent Band and this seemed like an exclusively non-core metal list so nothing that could be considered new school metal made the list also, because outside of Jinjer, Spiritbox would have also been a perfect pic but they are nowhere to be found.

@@Dr3amDisturb3r Yes, she doesn’t actually sound like that. I can say for certain as a scream vocalist myself, she doesn’t actually sound like what you hear. Fun fact for everyone reading this, there is vocal edit settings you can put on a stage mic, it’s not something exclusive to studio recording, you can have vocal presets on mixers that stage mics are plugged into. You can even use auto tune live (Which is actually just one of a multitude of other pitch correcting software).

thats one thing that i love about metal. Metalheads care enough to value actual skill. Most ppl making metal music can actually do the things they need to be doing live. Those who dont get quickly rejected by the crowd. (talking averages ofc) Just make a list like this with other genres and you will find lots of ppl who cant perform without being backed up by tech. ;-)
