I took a trip to Mongolia and did a two week horse trek across the country. We used Yaks as our pack animals. Some of the families we stayed with also milked yaks and used it for milk and yogurt.

Lots of good information. Yaks make great predator control. That’s why during the summer I run yaks with my cattle. I also have a couple of donkeys and a few llamas. For some reason you don’t see coyotes in the pasture. Can see them on the neighbors though.

The Salers cattle in my limited experience were all nuts!! Jump fences and try to kill you if you turned your back. There was a Yak rancher in Pincher Creek as well. He said you had to be extra careful at calving time.

I have to agree with her that some angus not all but some can be very docile I have one that when she was 400 pounds she would lay her head in my sons lap if he would sit down in the field she’s over 1000 now and she’s still the most gentle cow I have ever seen

This is where we have gotten a half cow for the last 3 or 4 years!!!!

My wife & I back in 2019 or close we were in Ouray CO at the KOA and we came back from driving around and saw a sheriff and EMT on the Bridge over the river thought there was a drowning or someone fell in. But not the case they were Following a Moose up the valley from Ridgeway CO trying to keep it off of HWY 550 but it ended up in a field with Yaks and they were not happy. But he Moose didn't care at all. Fun time the moose wandered across the hwy and up to an old mine and safe

I raised yak had 30 head in leadville co few years back sold them to a guy in moffet. Wow quite a gal.

Just wondering if there's anything that they do with the yak fur. Years ago I had a pair of what they used to call "Moon boots." The inner boot structure was made of foam & the outer part was made out of yak fur. People always noticed them and commented on them, because the boots were such a novelty. The long shaggy fur kind of resisted the ice balls that ordinarily form in longer hair like that. I would think that those artisan spinners who make yarn out of dog fur and fancy sheep fur and Angora goat fur and all that stuff could probably find something unique to do with that yak fur. Really really enjoyed your video. These people are the "salt of the earth. " Maybe there's hope for America yet! If we could relocate some of those New York "ghetto gang bangerz" they'd see what life is really about!

The Yak (Poephagus grunniens) is a large cattle native to Central Asia, it is the second largest living cattle species, the second largest living bovine, and the second largest living bovid in the world, it is the only extant species of the genus Poephagus and the closest living relative of both the European Bison (Bison bonasus) and the American Bison (Bison bison), the scientific name of the yak means "grunting grass-eater" in latin, there are two recognized subspecies of yak: the Himalayan Yak (Poephagus grunniens grunniens) and the Kunlun Shan Yak (Poephagus grunniens kunlunshanensis).

Love your videos. They’re well done in all aspects but the Colorado history especially appeals to this San Luis Valley girl. Speaking of lettuce and potatoes, have you considered featuring the SLV. It’s very rich in Native American and Spanish history, boasts the largest inland dunes in the world and the oldest ( I think) town in Colorado and the farming & ranching scene is fascinating.

A much better way of investing in our own and get the food that we need healthier grass fed. From the farm to the table.!

A Yak is a Scotch Highlander on steroids.

Our angus cows are docile, but we dont buy ndw stock we raise them and good temperment is very important. We have a pet angus cow that most of the year lives in the pasture by the house with the horse and goats. She just left to be bred but is at the gate yelling for attention at my father in laws house.

This was an awesome learning experience about yaks. I loved it why would you not put donkeys or mules around your cattle? They're supposed to protect against wolves I thought or am I wrong?
