Күн бұрын

A poet and an ardent feminist, Kamla Bhasin has become a leader in breaking patriarchal mindsets across South Asia. Her persistence reflects her dedication through 'Sangat' and the work she did with the United Nations. Her appearance in Satyamev Jayate questioned the notions on Masculinity and gathered widespread praise. A poet and an ardent feminist by choice, Kamla Bhasin has become the leading face in breaking patriarchal mindsets across India. An activist for human rights and women empowerment for 35 years, her persistence reflects from the dedication she delivered during her days with the United Nations. Her appearance in Satyamev Jayate also gathered widespread attention to ignite awareness amongst the masses about issues surrounding masculinity and women rights in the modern society. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Very good. She is very accurate in her description of men and their character and privilege in our culture. I'm very sure that if we had more feminism in our society that we would have more equality and less domination. More peace and less war. More cooperation and less confrontation. More socialism and less capitalism. More respect for the environment and less exploitation of our resources. More understanding of women and less toxic masculinity. More nurturing and less taking advantage of women. All in all, with more feminism, our world would be safer, more equal and more likely to improve.

@Raghunath Reddy have you realised ever the sufferings women have undergone for years and worked like slaves..I don't think you agree that patriarchy has so much to do with it. Things are changing now but whatever examples you have quoted cannot be justified for entire nation. Please refer books I guess then you will realize how and what power, money, and rights does? Thank you, you are free to agree or disagree. Kamla Bhasin has been working for more than 20 yrs now and orienting ppl about this. It's about a just society that treats ppl equally irrespective of gender and gives them the opportunity to choice and free living.

I will pray to God that all women will get such empowerment so that they should not get bagged in front of husband/court for their maintenance amount..... eventually real empowerment when women will do start taking responsibility to make nation strong via their services in military, severage cleaning like man do till so far...... *Only opportunistic women are misusing feminism concepts and who are actually needed never ever able to use their rights and still suffering but no one take care for them and only few are taking advantage of social cause.

i think all of us as children knew that deep down we had feminism aka equality inside us, that when we were denied something because of our gender, felt it was wrong. we came into the world equal, but grew up in a patriarchy that sometimes is so subtle that it sends the message to us that we do not get the same freedoms or rights as men.

Why is it necessary for some feminists to state that they don't hate men? Its because the vast majority of them do, which is why its necessary for her to make that distinction. "My feminism is different" Sorry, if thats the case then, whats the point of calling it feminism? Do you hear people say "my Communism is different"? No because that would be silly. It has a set of governing principles that seperates itself from other ideologies. "My feminism takes the shape of the container its placed in" So what you're saying is, feminism has no rigid principles, just a bunch of wishy washy ideas that can be put together and torn apart at will. No wonder feminism doesn't work.

Feminists feel the need to state that they 'don't hate men' because people who follow patriarchy believe that feminists hate men. So it's not the fault of feminists, it's just the mindset of people who believe in and follow patriarchy.
